Thermostat Questions

I have a 1991 Camaro RS with a 3.1L engine. My car has started heating up when setting in traffic. I am going to change the thermostat and the radiator cap because they are cheap. I am also going to run some flush throught the radiator. My question is, I would like to change the thermostat to a 170. Where do I find one and what is the part number. I have a part number from the dealer on a 170 but I think that it is for a V-8. Would this fit on the V-6?

Do you have a part number on that thermostat and where did you get it. I usually run around 195-200 but lately in the 95 degree weather and traffic it tends to heat up pretty quick.

If ya do not go over 210, you are doing fine.
Get the radiator area blown out, to remove any debris slowing airflow to the radiator.
Keep the stock thermostat, it works right.

you can go to just about any parts store, tell them what you have and that you need a cooler thermostat, a 180 degree

I have the 160 in my 90 rs 3.1 and it runs about 20-30 degrees cooler on average. I did it though so I could use the hypertech thermo master chip. It comes tomorrow we'll see how it helps.

Tell me about the weather man. I build swimming pools in this crap. Oh well, I run a 180 w/ no problems, but my 160 was costing me WAY too much gas money.

Thanks for confirming that one thought (lower thermo=higher gas consumption).
Kept it running in the cool/more fuel mode, right?
