2.8l overhaul HELP!!

2.8l overhaul HELP!!

Let me start by apologizing in advance for the long post but currently on the home stretch of getting my bird started. As you can see from my bio I have a 2.8l v6 that has been overhauled from top to bottom. I have a performance cam installed and brand new aftermarket distributor, plugs, wires, vector fuel injectors, and a jeggs performance computer chip installed for added performance. Before I start assembeling the top end of the motor I want to clarify a few loose ends.

First pic is of the fuel injectors and rail system. My question is what is the long tube coming off the end of the rail (looks like vaccum line hookup or something) keeping in mind I removed all the emmisions junk. Also where should the vaccum line for the fuel pressure regulator come from?

Next is about the pcv valve. It goes on the drivers side correct? Also can I just hook up a vaccum line to the plenum fro the pcv valve or what? To the right of the motor (drivers side) there is a dangling vaccum line with a pink and green filter at the end. What is this for? Can I close it?

To summarize...

Fuel injector rail tube coming off it (not the fuel lies)?
Fuel pressure regulator hookup?
Pcv valve hookup?
Stray vaccum line from pink filter?
Is any of the vaccum lines listed neccesary?

Also there is a tube about 3/4" coming out of the block next to distributor. It looks like a water line for the heater but I have no idea any ideas?

You talking about the black tube coming off the passenger side of the regulator? It runs to the front, then right side, then dumps to the street.

Lol well actually I didn't buy it. It came with the car when I bought it but hopefully will get me a few extra horse power!

Long tube coming off of the fuel rail is for the 7th injector in the back of the intake manifold...

There should be a long black tube that runs to the throttle body from a connection near the 7th injector... PCV hose goes into the top of that. You NEED this hose for the idle air control to work, period.

As for vacuum hoses, you NEED the following:
Vac supply for heater controls (if you haven't gotten rid of the HVAC)
Vac supply for fuel pressure regulator
Vac pipe for brake booster
Vac hose for the cruise control modulator (if equipped)
The ported vac port on the TB can be plugged if you deleted the emissions (controls EGR and EEC venting). Just make sure that the smog police aren't going to be poking around under your hood or you WILL fail.

:edit: And I don't see a "filter dangling off of vacuum lines".

Could you get a pic of this? all i have is a dangling 7th injector and previous owner removed all vaccum lines!

Also does the fuel pressure regulator need vaccum source or just takes excess fuel and dumps it out the back?

No, I don't have a pic. I swapped to a full 3100 top end 2 years ago. Best I can say is that there is an approximately 1" hole near the dizzy base where the 7th injector goes. This bore is between the attachment for the idle air bypass pipe and the dizzy shaft and has a 7mm threaded hole to one side where the bolt for the injector goes.

As for the fuel pressure regulator, one of the holes in the rubber block in the throttle body is for the vacuum line. Use your vacuum line routing sticker on the underside of the front of the hood to find out where the line plugs in.

Quick update... Got the intake, plenum, and valve covers painted and mocked up on engine. Next I need to take accesories off to paint lower half of engine block.

So I found where the pcv valve plugs into a network of tubes... One from the block, one to throttle body, one to pcv valve, and one skinny line that I don't know where it goes. I'll post a pic later if that's too confusing. Also on the passenger side valve cover should I just put a breather in the hole? Thanks for all he help so far. More updates to come!

The idle air bypass pipe also has a smaller tube that is SUPPOSED to be used for the large hose that runs to the EEC canister purge solenoid and valve. Since you're apparently running without a canister, plug it.

Don't forget to make sure that the rubber ends on the idle air pipe aren't dry-rotted. If they are, you can replace them with short sections of coolant hose.

Thats what i thought but thanks for clarifying! Also heres is the picture of the pink and green filter on the end of a vaccum line. Also what is the module thing above it with two vaccum ports in it?

That "filter" is actually a check valve which makes sure that some vacuum is retained in the system for both the cruise control and the HVAC controls. It probably has 2 ports on the OUT side for this purpose. You can connect it to the small side of the T in the back of the intake where the brake booster connects. If it has 2 ports on the OUT side, the SIDE port is for the HVAC control line and the straight one is for the cruise control (if you have it, otherwise it probably just goes to the vacuum tank under the driver's side battery tray).

And the "module" above it with the "vacuum ports" in it is the washer pump, which is mounted in the wiper motor. The fluid tank connects to the port in the middle and the line running up into the cowl goes on the other. Just be warned that, depending on how long the car has been sitting, the impeller inside the pump may have disintegrated and the pump may require replacement. Replacing the pump is as simple as pulling it out of the wiper motor and plugging the new one in. Just be warned that the thing may be seriously stuck in the motor and the new one will probably be somewhat loose but tight enough to stay in the wiper motor.
