1989 Firebird 2.8 auto. Got it for exactly nothing. Has a seized bottom end (any suggestions?), screwed up lock cylinders in the doors, and something wrong with the hatch clsoing electrics. Rust free, two minor dents, perfect interior, and typically peeling paint.
$1200, Need inspection, which meant about another $200 in parts (front spring used, I-pipe, altenator plug-in, gas line repair, idler arm and other simple things.
Had newer paint (6 months previous) new brakes, rotors, struts and shocks.
$300 for a Y99 & F41 V-6 Auto. No headliner, banged front nose, fender & ripped rear bumper. Beat up motor.
$25 for Stereo from Swap meet (AC Deloc w/5 band equalizer & tape deck)
$100 for alternator
$120 for the MAS sensor (two crappy things)
$65 for tires (THANKS GRAEME, I bought two from him for $40!)
$650 for the tranny
$800 for the 3.4 I installed
2-Hella H-4's from my 1985 S-10 Blazer (I like seeing at night) (free!)
$10 for the V-6 gauge package I have yet to install
$1 for the digital vacuum gauge
$20 for front brake pads, lifetime warranty
About $100 total for a front nose, fender, interior (including seat material & carpet)
$30 for the flex bumper repair kit
$5 for the roof mounted control console
$65 for the ignition modular
$35 for the Accel Super Coil
About $20 for the spray cans to paint the nose & fender & bumpers (I need more, I used lots of the Body Shop Beige on the fender, but it look good)
$30 for the new aluminum radiator from Pick Your Part
$150 for the fuel pump parts & $100 to install & tow car to friend to fix.
$50 for timing chain & water pump
NEED
Shocks (I need only one, it leaks, why replace others when they don't leak?)
Another rear brake wheel cylinder (about $20?)
A correct oil pressure sending unit to install the functioning gauge package
Who's adding? I save money every time I drive that car, it's such a solid ride. Great power & gas milage, too.
My Father-in law wants a $300 car like mine!!

And yes, I agree with you. Right now I can get a car just as good for 1/4 the price...
Hell I'm looking at buying another one for 150 and it runs (granted it's a POS)... I would use whatever one ended up in worse condition as a parts car...
I'll keep you guys updated on that adventure next weekend though, thats when I get to go offer them money for it...

$4000 82k miles purchased in 95 as first car at 16 years old ,still driving it today , broke down when I pulled in the driveway .Culprit - bad altenator . Did not have to do anything else major for awhile atleast .Swaped in a new left tail light .
I REALLY want to find me a ragged out IROC for cheap and start restoring it , but no room to park it I don't think Mom and Dad will let me park it on the patio
But , the V6 I have now is a keeper forever !
Im about to order a kit to re-build the front suspension , prabably will start this summer . The front jiggles worse than some girls' a$$es walking around at school . The back just jiggles a little like jello , its not to bad , so Im holding off on that rebuild for now .

NEW RIDE - 98 silver camaro
t-tops , 5 star alloy wheels
1200 for mine Had crappy paint, sub par int,the fillerneck was bent all to he!! cause the woman(no disrespect to all the women on here) left the gas station with the hose still in.And while i was sanding the paint down to bare metal I found some damage to my door, rear quarter panel wheel well.It was repaired before but rust started growing under the bondo. I've spent another 1500.00 for my engine mods and rebuild and all the exterior and interior fixes.Soon I will be repainting it
Traded my old Grand Prix that needed some work ($1000+) for it. My 'Brid had a new motor with 100 kilometers on it , new brakes, new clutch, and a few smaller things, with a nearly perfect body. The car's interior needs some help, but if all goes to plan I should have Mr. Mikes leather seats in it by summer.
I still see my old car around sometimes, the kid who got it has banged it all up in a couple places, sad sight, i'm just glad i saved the bird from that
BTW, I want to get a pic of my car in my sig, anyone know some good places to upload them that actually lets you link images?

GM performance cam, roller rockers, no cat, 2.5" exhaust from y-pipe back, Dynomax muffler.
$900, plus another $750 for a tune up, tranny service, new water pump, some other minor stuff too I don't remember exactly what. Two weeks later the tranny went. There is some other stuff wrong with it, and I'm not gonna put more money into it, unless I find someone who will help me swap a V8 into it (computers, not cars are my niche, and I'm not gonna pay a mechanic bookoo bucks to do the swap). So, I'm back searching for another third gen. Hopefully will have one by this summer. Until then I'm stuck driving my 4 banger Buick.
I paid 5200 for my 1992 bird mint condition and it had 80k. Itwas sold to me as a formula because it has the decals on the side. Then i come to find formulas are v8s but then i didnt kno much bout thirgens. But i stil love my car and i added a few mods. But i think it was worth the money for it. Ttops, aero kit, alloys and powr eveything. so ithik the price was good.
$2,500 i got it and it was in mostly good condition, front winshield was about to come out though(had unnoticable rust all around the whole front windshield) and i had to replace a few minor things, and the driver side mirror was PINK!! dunno y and the front bird was off center. looked like this the day i had it flat bedded to my house.
2000 for my 92. It has dings here and there and a little body damage, oh and needs hood painted. I like it though and it runs and gets me around great!

Try to figure this one out. While still in Navy paid about 9K for my 92 w/68K miles. Pretty good shape. Moved to illinois and paid $650 for a 305 TBI T Top that needs some work. Floor pan some rust holes(Will por 15 and forget it)... t top(R hand side..got a set off ebay for $100) window motors($50 Third gen parts), carpet, fuel pump($25 2 days to get in myself), and some other minor work. No rust(Besides interor) though... But it does run strong though...
nothing really wrong, everything worked, air conditioning, cruise, both worked, tape player didn't work, but go a pioneer cd player for $20.00 from a friend, had to replace the water pump bout a year later....but otherwise, nothinng major, not even the paint!! plus the t-tops don't leak, not even when i pressure wash it.

My parents bought me my 92 firebird with aero package back in 96 for 9,200. It is red with black interior, pw, pl, air, gold honey comb factory wheels. It was owned by an old lady who only drove it in the summer. She sold it because she bought some horses. It only had 21,000 miles on it. Now I have 51,000 summer only driven miles on it. I love it and heres what I've put on it so far.
*Crane 2030 (roller rockers need to be adjusted, causing ticking noise, totally f'ing up the timing)
*Comp Cams 1.52 Roller Rockers
*Dynomax Exhaust
*Home made K&N cold air
*Jet Power Pulleys
*MSD 6A ignition w/ wires and blaster coil
*Hypertech Thermo Chip w/160 stat
** Just bought Hooker Super Comp F-body headers(yes, brand new!!!!)
**62 mm throttle body from 60degreeV6.com
**3.42 Richmond gears
**Dynomax high flow cat
***Want to buy, but need to get tax return and good grades in College, Nitrous Express import direct shot, port and polish the intake, and Suncoast Functional Ram Air Hood.
Well before the cam was installed with the chip, pulleys, intake, exhaust and ignition I got a 16.268@84.330 I thought that was pretty good. Then I got my cam installed incorrectly by some *** who wont back up his work. When I get it out in late May or early June I'm going to get it fixed. Then I'm going to get the rest of the mods put on. I figure with the mods I bought already and the fixed cam I should atleast run mid fifteens. With the ones I need to save up for with nitrous atleast in the high 14's.

It's not to bad for just cheap bolt ons, it is one of the best e.t.'s I've seen on this V6 message board.
$8000 in 1991, with 16,000 miles on the odometer. My dad bought it to replace his totaled '82 2.8. (Some dumb*ss @ the body shop wanted to take a joy ride) He showed me pics and it looks like they got the GTA from him! (Maybe, maybe not) It currently has 95k-96k miles. It can still drive 30 miles to Downtown L.A. w/ the AC on and a passenger in the back. Major replacements are the coil, alternator (maybe 4 throughout its lifetime), water pump (took me 3 days to do that!), new paint (April 98), and my stereo. Other than that, all stock.

1985 Trans Am 305 TPI Project Car (brother's)
i paid $4500 for the 91 in july 97. it had 99k miles on it. straight body. perfect int. nice system sony hu & 2 10s w/ 200 watt amp. t-top, leaked alittle bit when pressure washed. paint pealling bad. and a bullet hole thru the driver seat thru the bottom floor board. yes i do know it was a bullet hole. its not around anymore. bout a month after i sold it, the person who bought it, was killed in when a big rig crossed the freeway and hit it. if it wasnt that car, it was one that looked like it with the same license plate.
i paid $500 for the 83 im rebuilding now. execellent body. origional paint and no signs of peeling or rust!! interior kinda bad and engine knocks like a b@st@rd..
$2900 for mine, with 65,000 miles on it, back in January 1994. The body & interior & engine were great, compared to the V8 f-bodies available in my area at the time.
I have no idea (and don't want to know) how much I've bought for it since then. I don't regret any of it tho! (Okay, well maybe I regret the accidents...)

$500
for black 1986 Camaro SC hardtop, 2.8 V6, auto, manual windows and door locks, decent red interior. I bought it from some girl down in three bridges NJ. She had hit a deer with it so it needed new front fascia, drivers side fender, and hood. Windshield had a crack in it so that needed to be replaced. Had Sprint GT tires on the back and 85,000 miles. spent another $500 on new paint, parts, Iroc gfx, and black interior. Cant wait to do more
bought my 84 camaro ZF v6 for $300. had been sitting for 2 yrs in a lot. engine was in horrible shape, body was rusted. cost another $1000 to get it passed emissions. but it was my first camaro. finally got retired last summer to the junk yard for my 89 v8 rs
92 IROC BLUE metallic Camaro RS 3.1L V6. My parents bought it for me for $1200 which included a parts car. My car was hit in the front. (light hit) My dad does body work, so he fixed it and now I have.......I think one of the nicest cars in my town. But my dad said he would sell it if i f'ed up with my grades, so i've been working my *** off, so hopefully i'll be able to keep my car till I get my license. I have a pioneer DEH-2300 cd player which I installed and my car already had aftermarket sony speakers in it and I also have a custom sub box. As soon as I'm sure that my car will not be sold, I'm gonna buy 2 10" RF HE2's powered by a RF 800.2 amp and wait till April when I can drive my baby.....
I bought my 88 RS off ebay for $2650, immaculate condition, 6 months and 2 accidents later I'm selling it because I wanted something with t-tops and a bit more power.
oh yeah, and the last response to this thread was two years ago, that's totally awesome
Nah.. we can revive this one.. keeps Ked, Tom, and Project from having to answer twice
$1000, needed paint and exhaust. Eventually coil died, alt died, trans died. Motor is on its way out due to boost vs bearings. 2 years of faithful service as daily driver, now project car. Faster than my V8.
$800 for my V8 'parts car'... needed TPS wires moved off valve cover where they were shorting out, and became V8 daily driver. Had brand new rubber and fairly recent $$$$ paint. Tossed it a 160* stat and 16-pass trans cooler to keep the 'trans died' part from happening again ... Eventually fuel pump died, starter died (while it was on ramps with the new starter waiting to go in), ICM died. 2 1/2 years of faithful service as daily driver, still going.
$900 including the tax. Found it on ebay and got the dealer to cancel the auction before this one guy from PA could get it. Pretty good shape. Unfortunely the body edges are surface rusted (awaiting work&paint), but the mechanicals were in great shape....after I undid some of the stupid stuff done by the jackass who owned the car last. Only two items that HAD to be repaired for daily driving were a tranny mount and the door lock cylinders. Oh and the passenger's side door handle. But that was it. Mostly just the body work to do. Stupid college kid drove it in the winter.
edit* Forgot about the water pump and radiator. Those were replaced after 3 months.
$3000 CAD in August 1998, which would have been $2000 USD at the time. It was way too much, I could have had it for less. It had 210,000km (130,500mi). A list of things that were wrong with it:
plugged CC
rust along bottom edge
missing some top-coat
various dents small and large
plugged front brake hoses (and therefore warped rotors)
clutch about to go
fuel pump about to go
shocks/struts shot
tires bald
shot rear hatch lift supports
original speakers
original stereo with only one side of speakers working
demolished seatbelt buckles
some good things:
"rebuilt engine"
great interior
doesn't appear to have been in an accident
