i want to do this because i have a non-fuel injected car and i need a new motor, and i was thinking of putting a 3.4L in and the only ones that i can find are fuel injected. i dont really have the time to convert my car to fuel injection thats why im wondering if i can switch the motor.
im assumming that this is gonna be on a 3rd gen, and ur using a ohv 3.4.. u would basically do exactly the same thing as whats in ked85's swap boogie, except use use stock intake, carb and inductoin..
to simply answer ur question, yes u can.. (MOST 60* v6 parts will work on MOST 60* v6 engines - 2.8-3.1-3.4)
hey 84fire - from ur name and posts, im guessin that u have a 84 v6 3rd gen? is it an import or domestic version? ive heard that the import 82-84 v6s didnt have a comp? i was wondering if u could conform that..
yeah i have a 84 firebird..thats right now at the body shop getting fixed after an accident...and needing a new motor. it is right now a 2.8 and i dont know if it is domestic or not but i believe that i do have a computer since i have wires running everywhere
Your(old) carbureted 84 V6 2.8 has a computer - it controls the distributor and the rich/lean mix on the carburetor. You got wires running to your carburetor? unplug them and yur car will run like ****.(full rich all the time). What U got there is your basic E2Se carb. The E2SE is a pieceocrap, But I know of only two carbs that will fit that manifold(w/o major mods) - the E2SE and 2SE.
The 2SE was used on some Chevy trucks & Blazers - its not computer controlled.
For a carbureted - non-computer controlled swap I'd consider a motor from an S-10 Truck or a Blazer.
(I'm thinking that the intake man & distributor from the truck should work on the TBI 3.1 but I haven't tried it)
Also you may want to look into a Buick V6, its got a different intake manifold setup.
yeah, for a non-comp controlled motor, get non comp carb & vaccum advanced distributor.

From what I've read, you could use the manifold off your 2.8 and run a 2SE carb. But you'd be defeating your purpose. The performance of the 2SE can best be described as "mousey" - I checked Truckoutfitters sight & they show an Edelbrock manifold for a 2.8L. 60deg. V6. Great! But the picture they show looks wrong.(the intake on the 2.8 fits UNDER the valve covers) So I don't know if they just posted the wrong picture or what.
the edelborck maniflods are sold as 2 pieces.. a bottom and top.. there are also 2 diff top pieses 2bbl w/ egr and 4bbl w/o egr.. thats probably y the pic looked funny when u looked at it.. it defiently sicks out when u look at it compared to the stock manifold..
the edelbrock intake manifolds will work any ANY 60* v6 (2.8-3.1-3.4)
84fire - to do the 3.4 swap w/ carb, basically follow ked85's swap boogie, just use ur stock manifold and carb.. everything SHOULD fit like it was ment to be there and it SHOULD look exactly like ur 2.8 when ur finished..
