This is my 1984 Firebird S/E that has been my "restoration" project. I have replaced the original 305 with a Goodwrench 350 crate engine, had the transmission rebuilt as well as the rearend. The tires were new when I bought it 3 years ago and only have a few thousand miles on them. I replaced the rims, carpet, seats (from a 4th gen Camaro, professionally recovered), sail panels, visors and headliner. The original leather wrapped steering wheel was replaced with a mid-80's Firebird steering wheel with a new leather cover and the leather wrapped shift knob was replaced with a stock black one, due to the lack of leather wrapped replacements for the wheel and shift knob. All weatherstripping has been replaced and FatMat (similar to DynaMat) sound deadening has been installed.
All the front brake system has been replaced as well as the carb (new Edelbrock 600 CFM), Edelbrock EPS manifold, Accell distributor, MSD 6A box and wires, new alternator, power steering pump, starter and radiator. All hoses and small parts have been replaced and the engine compartment painted black. It has a Dynomax exhaust system and Hedman shorty headers with the Hedman Y-pipe, Lakewood lower control arms and Edelbrock panhard bar.
I had the car repainted the original creme-beige color. Not too many out there any more with it. Since it is a bit unusual, I chose to keep it the stock color. The original paint was the water-based stuff out of the California Van Nuys plant, but this is a good base of regular paint with clear-coat over it. It's not perfect, but good enough for me. I have had to scrounge all over EBay and the internet for some of the parts (especially the replacement for the cracked lower console...no one seemed to have them until I found one one EBay). It has been a great education working on this car as I believe I know just about every inch of it. | | Photos | | |
