Xophertony's 1988 Pontiac Firebird Trans-AM GTA
this is my 1988 Pontiac Trans-AM GTA. i bought her used in november of 2005. i think i am the fifth owner. the car started life in Honolulu, HI. since it was exported back to the mainland and later sold in WA i believe it to have been a rental car. no proof though.

my GTA still has it's original 5.7L engine with 142,000 miles on it as of this writing. the car is a black hardtop with black leather interior. it is one of ~6k GTAs sold in 1988 with the digital dash option.

i purchased the car it was from a prior owner who had gone an interesting direction with it. he had removed MOST of what made it a GTA from the outside. the car currently has crappy 15" imitation-centerline wheels on it. the Delux leather seats were removed in favor of grey cloth out of a 2002 cavalier (comfortable, but ugly) which i have since replaced with 4th gen camaro power leather seats. the wraparound was replaced with a base wing, and some of the badging was missing. most of this was to replace broken stuff. you know how those wings get, i have seen the seats, they were shot, the wheels however.... no excuse.

i have since repaired MOST of what was wrong with it when i got it (addmitadly not mutch, Prior owner took excelent care) and have added a few things. i plan on hunting down many of the GTA specific parts in order to return her to her rightfull place at Pontiacs Top-of-the-Line.

returned to original so far:
replaced wrong size radio pod trim with correct one
replaced missing rear cargo cover
replaced 2.73 drum rear with 3.27 BW 9bolt(all GTAs came with rear disc. PO swapped out original toasted rear)

Current Mods:
PBR rear brakes
willwood Prop valve
SLP shorty headers and Y-pipe.
Hooker catback
4th gen center console
Finished PO's AC delete.
"GTA" throttle plate
accel shorty plugs (waste of money, never again)
Taylor 10.4 MM plug wires with 1300* boots
added roofconsole with custom switch pannal in place of mialge dials.
215* 2nd fan switch
WC-T5 swap.
Energy suspension Poly mount
Centerforce dual friction clutch
KYB gas adjust shocks

Future Plans, FIRM:
fiberglass wraparound aero wing to replace base wing.
Black or Gold 16" crosslace wheels to replace crap 15" wheels.
LS1 front breaks to go under crosslace wheels (have parts, cant do until i get the 16"s)
4th gen black doorhandles to replace the chrome ones that are on there now.
Replace missing gold "pontiac" badging on front popup
replace GTA nose badge
SFCs. custom made by a fellow CascadeCrew member. in the works as we speak.

Future plans, not for sure yet:
heads (vortecs or AFRs, perhaps port the stockers) inside of a year
cam. pobably next summer, or when i do the heads
intake. posably with the cam and heads. not sure.
383 engine swap... 3-5 years.
Tint. unsure how much or when. but for sure and eventualy.

car was dyno tested just after i got it, with about 8* retarded timing (i had not yet checked it) and a 2.73 rear, and it put down 176 HP. i added headers, and did a minor tuneup (including a timing adjustment), and swaped in the 3.27s and ran a 14.3@9MPH. my fellow car club guys say 220HP at the wheels as a good estimate, but that is a "but dyno" number, and unconfirmed.

UPDATE* after installing the five speed i managed to run a 14.4 @97MPH
