HOW I CAME TO FIND MY 'BIRD!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
___1999, after realizing a restoration'd cost me a small fortune, I reluctantly sent my beloved high school '72 Chevelle Malibu 350 to the boneyard,(stripped). I began 2 search for another suitable "A"-body 2 play with. 6 years ago, I read an ad for a $2k '68 Pontiac Tempest in CT, called the seller, & made the 45min. trip 2 see it. Like my poor Chevelle, it had a bad case of tin cancer. Worse yet, the Poncho 350 smoked badly, it was leaking everything, & the interior was shot & moldy! The stupid owner also ruined an original GTO Ram-Air hood by letting it sit nose-down in the dirt! As I headed home, I read an ad in the "Wheeler Dealer": 1986 Firebird, "Original New England Survivor" Only 74,000mi, mint interior!, $2500.....Hmm, I could use a good laugh, most 3rd Gens were beaten to within an inch of their lives around here. Saw her and was shocked, took her for a spin, really tight/maintained/unmolested car...fell in love and bought her without haggling, wasn't gonna lose that deal. She ain't as fast as the Chevelle, but she handles 10 X's better and gets good mileage Too!
