| CrazyHawaiian's 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z | |||
| The purpose of this project is to build a Camaro for the sport of Drifting. At first this car was a "Budget Project" where I wanted to see what a mostly stock low budget Camaro would do in a drifting application. The first 5 pictures of this car on the right were taken when it was mostly stock, just a home-made paintjob, a panhard bar, a steering wheel, and exhaust. Right around $3000 into the entire project. Here is a video of the car taking one of the turns at our old track (now closed) CrazyHawaiian - Feint In 2005 multiple drivetrain failures (because of my abuse!) kept me out for months at a time while I saved up money and learned to fix the car myself. First a TH350 tranny swap after turning the 700R4 into a 1 speed, got the new trans 0 mile rebuild for $275, what a deal. Having too much fun out there and what do you know, a few exploding radiators and engine fires, not to mentioned exploding tires. Hehe! Next up was a headgasket failure with the L98 after multiple overheating nightmares. I beat the crap out of my drifting car! Around the middle of 2005 I decided it was time to give up on the high milage motor and cheap auto transmission setup, I wanted to take the car to the next level. First I took care of the cooling system, no longer a problem I didnt have to worry about overheating. After that I worked on the suspension a little bit and serviced the brakes, very important for my sport. All the while I've been saving for a new 0 mile drivetrain setup. Hope to have the new drivetrain installed by the end of 2006. Going with a built 5 speed and a new 357ci SBC w/ 113 heads. Below is the current list of mods.
