Here is my problem, my 275/50's are rubbing when I smash it, and the wheel well is sharp and is cutting my tires. I would think air shocks would fix it, but is there a quick fix to the problem? My rear passenger side has a pretty deep slice in it, and i'm sure it cant take much more abuse (she is parked for the time being)
Any ideas you can pm me

im having the exact same problem, except mine are 275 40 18s, drivers side is fine, but passenger side is getting ate up pretty good, please someone give us a way to fix this
cameron
i just thought of a possible reason its only the passenger side that is rubbing
it could be the extra wieght from the spare tire and jack thats on the passenger side, im gonna take mine out tomorrow and ill let you know if it works or not, hopefully someone else will chime in to give us some other ideas
Deadhead good idea, i'll try that! Good suggestion!
My car isn't lowered, but 275/50's are a TON of meat in the back, very wide very tall tires. you think if i put some stiff springs and air shocks it owuld clear it up?
You can do 275/50 or 45/17 on a lowered car no problem with a 17x9.5 w/ a 5.5 back spacing.
So Im gona take a guess and say your shocks and springs are worn out and need replaces.
depending how much you want to spend depends on what company you go with. You cant go wrong with koni, bilistein and ebach.
You can fix a 11.5 Slick on the cars a 275 is no problem. Im actually in the middle of Mini Tubbing my Z. and I have a 27x11.5 slick onder the lip. I could have taken a BFH and made it fit with out a mini tub but I plan to run a 315 BFG Drag radial on a 17inch rim.
And grats thirdgen.org for making the chevy high performance DIY PROM article
back to the problem.
It seems after careful testing and having 2 people watch from each side, the wheel wells are NOT making impact! Good thing, but the bad news is any kind of dip is really smackin 'em. I had the 2 people watch me go over a deep dip while I was INCHING and one guy said WHOA, I put it in park and looked and saw that I was only a quater of an inch from hitting on my passenger side (drivers side had a lot of room) I went through it again slightly faster with no hits, but one of the guys guessed half an inch (why slower the closer it gets??)
i am inching around now not ever thrashing her, I have a dyno run scheduled for Friday at 4pm and will post the results! The man that runs the dyno owns a performance diesel shop and I noticed the dyno said "Ford Mustang" i ask him why and he said "the mustang is the only thing I can figure can keep up with the sick amounts of torque these diesels make" I wanted to laugh but I kept the chuckles all to myself
Thanks for the help all, I am probably going to keep driving her easy and taking bumps very slow and avoiding all major dips and speed bumps.
If anyone has a cure for it, please post it!
Thanks all
by the way, i got a new air filter today, (the old K&N that came on it was DIRTY and was twisted with a hole) and it seems like my fuel/air mixture was running a bit lean, I adjusted it a full number (accel fuel management) and I have mantained a smoother idle, it may just be my head telling me things because air filters don't do THAT much from what I have seen in chevy high performance
i was thinking that the springs are possibly worn out, the shocks are fairly new, and its not lowered. Im gonna try the spacers in the springs to keep the springs from compressing all the way and see how that works. Ill do that tomorrow and let yall know how it works.
also cameron, taking out the spare and jack didnt help me any, but maybe itll work for you worth a shot
thanks for the tips aswell guys, appreciate it
You can buy airshocks for our cars for a lot less than 100 bucks a pair. The spring spacers run about 4 bucks for a pack, and they are easy to install.
"These aircraft quality aluminum jounce bumper spacers are necessary whenever installing 17" wheels and tires on any 1993-2002 Camaro or Firebird. They are designed to raise the jounce bumper to prevent tire contact with the inner wheel well."
Re: Rear Tires rubbing under heavy acceleration/bumps
Ya might want to check your Bumpstoppers also. If those are worn out......your car will dip lower then its supposed to and let the wheel hit the wheel well. Had this problem while running 265/60s.
Re: Rear Tires rubbing under heavy acceleration/bumps
I am currently running 275/60's and had spring spacers in it but didn't think they were necessary. Well.. they were. Within a few weeks of driving my lip started tearing throw my tires. I haven't put the spring spacers back in yet but I soon will be. But I did throw a set of air shocks on and those took care of almost all my rub. Everyone once in awhile I'll get a little rub when I hit a bump at high speeds. But you can always put a little more air in to take care of that.

i run 275/60 15's on the rear and i have no rubbing problems at all. they are only 27.99 inch tall - you may have bumper stop problems but that will not cause the wheels to hit the body and chop up the tires.
you have spring problems but even then it should not hit - mine never do.
take a look at the pics in my profile - never one problem.
