New Rims installed on the IROC

I got my new rims on the IROC today, Chrome 17in IROC's from custom wheel markert with BFG G-force tires 245/45/17. It's such a different look for my car I am having a hard time getting use to it. It's a lot of chrome.

I might have to add a black center cap and lugs and black strips between the spoke grooves on the wheel. Also, one thing I noticed is the car sits up about a 1/2 inch higher now compared to the 16" with 245/50/16's that were on their. I thought this was just a size plus one but the combo is cleary taller. I wish I went with the 245/40 tires.

Re: New Rims installed on the IROC

clean car bro! i like your idea about the black, could give it a stock-esque look. my only suggestions would be to lower the car some...also, any idea just how wide a tire you can get on those wheels? it'd be cool to see a 275/40/17 on those.

too much chrome, the black between the stripes will REALLLY make it look great. I never did like all chromed wheels, these Irocz wheels need to have the paint to 'break' up the wheel you know what i mean?

nice car color tho, i like it

Thanks for the complients guys.

The color is called medium orange metallic (code 63- WA 9188). It is the orginal color the car came in and when I repainted it I resprayed back to the orginal color. It was only available in 1988 on a limited run (about 1,200 cars). The color is almost identical to sunset orange used on the 4th gen cars.

Do you guys think a one inch drop would look good? I also called a decal place today to see if they can make me some black wheel cap decals with IROC logos

That looks really good. Nice choice in rims. Yes, a short drop on the car will make it look even better IMO.

What's the width on them rims? 245 is awfully narrow for a 17". At least, I woulda thought they'd be wider.

The rims are 17X8, but I have to say I am disappointed in how they look regarding width using the 245/45/17 tires. Any idea how to get my width back? 255/40 tires? I just compared the width to my 16" with 245/50/16's and the old combo is cleary wider my almost a 1/2 inch.

Re: New Rims installed on the IROC

you probly can fit a 255 tire on that rim. Else you would need to widen them to 9-9.5 inches and then you could get a 275 tire

Re: New Rims installed on the IROC

I've put 295/50s on my stock 16x8 rims. So, with the right sidewall height, you could go wider than a 255.

Do you have a shot from the rear of the car? i want to see how much they stick out and how they tuck in the fenders. You have 245 and not 255 right? I was thinking you said it was 255 in my thread.

In this pick I did have 245/45/17's. However on Saturday (yesterday) I changed them to 255/40/17 's because I thought the 245's looked to tall and narrow.

I just sold the 245's today on craigs list so I cannot get anymore pics with that combo. But I can take some pics with the new combo which is the 255/40/17's that fit really nice and look great on the 17" IROC's. But I am going out of town until Friday so I can't get you updated pics until then.

Also, regarding the hood it is a Glasstech 2" hood not a harwood. I bought it 10 years ago and from what I understand they have revised it several times since then.

... an idea before you ruin a beautiful set of rims. If you don't like the look of that much chrome, get some black electrical tape, trim it to fit, and apply it to the grooves. Do only one side of the rims, take a similar picture, and post it up on this thread to help everyone make a better comparison.

17"s are the perfect size for these cars. It must just be because you're not used to it, but the 245/45/17 tires are nearly exactly the same size as your 245/50/16 tires. THe 255/40/17s you just put on, however, are about .6" smaller. You probably should check out http://www.transmissioncenter.net/sp...n_______va.htm and make sure you don't need to replace the speedo geare(s) to correct your speedometer/odometer.
