Ok guys heres my spill. I've seen hundreds of rims on our rides and really i'm not impressed!!! Blame it on GM for putting these awesome, timeless, looking rims our cars. They are known as "Irocs" period,, and when you remove them it almost makes our IROC cars become just "camaros". Are u guys still with me?? LOL Maybe its just me but nothing comes close,, i'm sorry. Here in LA i've seen everything and i consider myself an expert on this, trust me. I know alot of u may disagree and i admit i have seen some nice alternate styles but i just cant replace my stocks. YET!
I agree with you to some extent...the IROC ('85-'89) rims are a really nice wheel when all polished up, chromed or painted but that is a stock wheel for the hardcore guy or girl that want his or hers car to be completely factory stock and it will look like everyone else's...On the other hand myself and alot of the people on here or any other Camaro site have aftermarket rims on our cars because we want to be unique and it seperates us from the stock crowd, personally I like my rims to have a lip to show the depth unlike the stock ones that are virtually a flat looking rim and for me are too boring.
There are tons of rims out there...some real nice and some just plain disgusting but to each their own.
And apparently good enough for other GM vehicles. . . Where I live there's guy with an S-10 with the later style IROC's and somebody has a Chevelle with the early style. I've seen them on El Camino's, other S-10's and even a Firebird once.
I agree, although my tastes seem to be different that most. Some people have some hideous rims on their cars here. there are some nice vette rims. i like the Iroc rims too (even on a T/a) but I love the 20 slot salad shooters. I just wish they made the rimless ones in 16" like my 15". I will prob still get some 16" ones though and maybe refinish them in dark gunmetal.

Like these owned by chevymad. He coated these black chrome I think he called it.
thats what im talkin' about!
I might try w/out the chrome tho. (check my name)
thanks for posting those pics, i wasnt sure if those 16" convex were from firebirds or fieros. i have only sen the 16" flat w/ the fake rivets, i think they were WS6 options. i like those better.

Are you talking about the stock most common firebird wheel which also cam on fieros and a few other Pontiacs in a 14 inch wheel??? If so I have a set that are 16's yeah....suprized me too

91-92 16" Z-28 wheels look the best, IMO. However, a custom set of Billet Foose 17" 91-92 Z-28 wheels would look even better......... Coming Soon! 17x10 rear, 17x8 front.

...so true. Not saying they're for everyone, but still so true. It's just not an Iroc, without "irocs".

Sinister, your car is one of the baddest here on TGO, but as even YOU point out in your statement, alot of people here or on any other site have aftermarket rims. How is that unique? How does that standout? EVERY show I show in, people come up and tell me how glad they are that I have stock Iroc rims, since "everyone" else has aftermarket rims.
yup i still havent found any aftermarket rims that IMO would go well with my iroc. if i ever did change my rims I would probably get the chrome iroc replicas only because id like my rims alittle bit bigger, some 18s maybe. id hate to get rid of my stock irocs with the gold accent casue i love how they match my car
It's a matter of opinion. I would probably have left my stock wheels on my car if they were 17". But 16's are too small and look disproportioned on a lowered car.
I'm not saying that ZR1's are the best wheels out there, because the only reason I have them is that they were all I could afford (although I do think they look really good on my car). I will someday buy a new set of wheels, probably Fikse FM5's.
I think there are a LOT of really good looking wheels out there for our cars. Which one is the best? Well, like I said, that's a matter of opinion. And when you try to argue that it is indeed a FACT that one wheel is better than another, then there is no point in discussing it with you because you have already made a wall between yourself and the other person because you are set in your own opinion.

I agree that the IROCs look nice. I still have my mint set of IROCs wheels yet. I just happen to have an opportunity to get c6 so I went with them. But someday I might go back!
every where i go, nobody has aftermarket rims on their thirdgens... just two or three that i know of including mine. I'm glad to swap out the wheels to be more unique
imo... Ronal R15's come the closest, but stock looks best
mine are just like yours but they are not wide enough to put some real meat on the ground. you need 9 inch rim width to give the rear that mean look.
and if you are pumping out more than the stock 170 hp you need that extra width to keep the rear tires on the ground.
and if you are using the rear disk breaks you need the 16 inch for them to fit.
they are ok but i have had 3 camaro's with the same rims and im tired of them.
Well, contrary to my sarcastic comment earlier, it IS in fact up to the individual of course. It IS just opinion.
Some people are all about performance, and as long as their wheels can fit the brakes and tires they need, that's all that matters. Some people like the look of low profile tires. Some DON'T like stock rims, so they simply look for something different.
Those of us with nice clean stock appearing Irocs think the rest of you are crazy, but again, while I beleive I'm right and you're wrong, deep down I suppose I know it's still a matter of opinion. (as much as it pains me).
I think it all depends on personality and taste. I have stock irocs and they are pretty tight. however i also think that the 2008 zr1 and 2008 z06 deepdish rims look good on our cars. but like abubaca said is all a mater of opinion. i havent changed mine yet because i see more cars with the 90's style or aftermarket rims. me, the guy up the street from me, and the guy that works at the hotel are the only ones that have stock irocs around here. people comment on our rims all the time because theyre irocs and tell us that its a shame other people ruin their cars with aftermarkets. but like i said its personality, opinion, and taste. i like the irocs the best but some aftermarkets are cool too.
so that was my two cents you can take it or leave it.
All your opinions are appreciated guys! I have to add something else that i dont quite get? I cant see myself putting corvette rims on my car either. Here in LA thats called " get a Corvette dude! what u cant afford one!". Again with that point only IROCS go great with the El caminos, Novas, Monte Carlos... etc. And knowbody clowns u for it.
I'll be sticking with the stock wheels on my Formula. Theres nothing better looking to me than the perfect fresh out of the wrapper third gen vibe. But again its all opinion..
I'm sticking to stock wheels for now since 1. they look good 2. haven't found any aftermarket wheels that really grab my attention enough to put them on my car.
So for now it's this, damn glad I finally switched from the original 15's.
Yes, I need to get some center caps lol

I suppose the same could be said for those who have dropped LS1's or LT1's in their 3rd gen. "Go get a 4th gen dude!". Sorry, if I wanted a 4th gen I would buy a 4th gen. But I don't, so therefore I will put an LS1 in my 3rd gen.
The thing with people giving you a hard time for putting "Corvette" wheels on your 3rd gen...well, just explain to them they are "GM" wheels, put on Corvettes by GM. Your 3rd gen is a GM product, therefore there is nothing wrong with putting them on your car. And tell them that Corvettes might not necessarily be your taste, but you like the wheels, and if they still give you a hard time about it, tell them that their opinion doesn't influence you at all and they are wasting their breath.

You know BlueZee, I was thinking the very same thing. Nothing wrong with vette rims on a F body in my opinion. I have a buddy with a silver 98 SS vert clone with chrome C4 sawblades. The car is gorgeous.
glad to see eveyones not bashing me for my taste in factory GM rims placed on corvettes.
also im an 18 year old kid with no credit how on gods green earth do you expect me to be able to afford the payments and the insurance for a vette. that is assuming the bank will give me a loan.
I think some of our thirdgens can benefit from some aftermarkets ( my '83 daytona 500 pace car t/a desperately needed an upgrade from the nasty turbofins ) but when it comes to irocs... if the rims are in decent condition, leave 'em alone.
mine had these american racing rims on it when i got it, so i never got to see my stock rims. i really like the ar's though. i got some on my pickup truck too.
I would give vital parts of my anatomy to have the originals back on my ride...
Don't get me wrong the 18's that the previous owner put on are HOT and are very similar in style - but I'm a bit old school and believe that nothing beats the originals...
