Does anyone know what tire size I would need to get a wider profile on the stock 15" IROC rim? I currently have the stock 215/65/15's but think they're too narrow and I want the wider look of 245/50-16's. While of course making sure there is no rubbing and the car still handles well.
I've been looking at 245/60/15 also in the last couple days for the rear of my Bird, they're getting pretty worn, they should fit fine being that I had 285/30/19 on there a couple months ago. Later.
i am running 255/60 15 on the front and 275/60 15 on the rear.
they fit fine. 255 is as big as i can get on the front and 275 is max for the rear with stock rims. actually 255 is perfect for the rims - 275 is a little big as minimum rim width is supposed to be 7 1/2 inch and im only at 7.
pics in my profile.
I've used 245/50/15 on stock 15" camaro rims with no problems. Exact same size tire you're looking at, just for a 15" rim. Obviously the first number is tire width, but as I understand it, the second number, which I BELIEVE is the aspect ratio, determines the height of the sidewall. The number is a percentage of the tire width, so assuming you do nothing to the width, decreasing the second number, decreases the profile of the sidewalls. So....If you currently have 215/65/15, as you increase the first number, or tire width, by 10 (I believe cm, but I have NO clue) you should decrease the aspect ratio, or second number, by 5, (%) assuming you'd care to keep the stock tire height of course. 215/65/15, 225/60/15, 235/55/15, 245/50/15...should all be very close to stock height.

Reason: wrong wording

245/50/15 would be too short compared to stock tire height. 245/60/15 is closer to stock:
When I bought my car the previous owner had 295/50/15 on the stock rims? wtf? I still have them sitting in my shed. havent bothered to have the tires removed from the rims yet. My old car was running 235/60/15 front and 255/60/15 rear and fit good. My current car is running 275/40/17 all the way around on Konig 17X9 rims and fit great!
