Those look sweet... it's really awesome that you got something like that done! I'd love to do the same concept of a larger version of a stock wheel with the crosslace rims. They'd look great in 17 or 18 inch diameter without that big step-down in the lip.

since you had them custom made, do you own the rights to the design? there can be some bucks in the resale rights, especially if you sell them at a perpiece commission.
i like that the center caps dont just come off - my 90 has the old tap and steal center caps.

Boyd owns the rights to the wheel. I set it up this way in order for them to be available to you guys, my little gift to all of you!

The wheels are still too new to be on the site. I haven't sent Boyd pictures of the car to put on his site yet... I think they still haven't finalized pricing yet also.

I like your initiative to get things done your way! But as others have said, the wheels don't really blend in with the car too well. The wheels have a large surface area, and you need to offset the look of the wheel. To add some character to the wheel, I would suggest to add some paint to the stripes or to the insides of the spokes. Another thing that distracts from it is the deep dish rim. In my opinion, this design would look better with a less inset center, just like how the stock 91-92's were.
In any case, these are just my thoughts, sounds like you love the wheels, so that's all that matters!

Love the wheels! I have the 91-92 style and I'm currently in the process of fully polishing them but wish I could afford to chrome them. If these were resonably priced I woud definitely look into getting them for the following reasons.
1. They would look great on a dark car
2. They look stock but are subtly different
3. They have a nice a nice dish to them
4. Since they are a bigger diameter they will clear bigger brakes
5. They are available in bigger widths. Personally I'd like them at 17 X 9 and they will have the proper backspacing where you don't have to run cheesy spacers.
6. Finally an alternative to the aftermarket 85 - 87 Iroc wheels!

Honestly I'd much rather have these than the cross lace wheels some people seem to think are the holy grail of third gen wheels.

I think they're the best looking stock 3rd gen firebird wheel... I don't care for them as much on Camaros. Just because they're popular doesn't mean people are praying at their alter!

Guess I hit a nerve there with you. Don't get butt hurt that not every one thinks they are the best looking wheel.

17 x 9.....0 offset/5" bs is a perfect fit, front & rear. Ask me how I know.

As for crosslaces being a "holy grail", its not so much the looks, which I DO love, its the weight, especially for autocross/road racing cars. Lighter weight on drag cars is good too, but the lack of width really restricts their use in drag applications.

Only 16lbs each. Lightest factory 16" 3rd gen wheel, hands down. Which allows the suspension to do their job better, without dealing with heavy wheels.

Look pretty sweet. Kinda look like Ronal Firehawk wheels.

Now that you mention that, they are almost a happy medium between the Ronals and the stock wheel.... IMO

I think they are sick but I agree that the lines should be painted atleast black, also I think if the dish wasn't as deep I think that would be better as well

They look great! I would have personally wanted 18's but thats me. I thank that a brushed finish on the face of the wheel would be sick, but again

I can't discuss pricing, you'll have to talk to Boyd Wheels about that. All I can tell you is that Boyd Wheels aren't cheap! But I think they are worth it.

I think the wheel looks fine as it is. I thought about doing the lines and the holes between the spokes in Silver as well as doing the center circle of the hex nut in black with the Camaro lettering in polished alum., but that would have been alot more $$$. They were already enough $$$ as is.

Maybe one day "if" I get bored with them, I'll take them to a paint shop to have them customized further.

Can someone who's good with photoshop do the following? -

Color the lines and the holes between the spokes in silver. Then color the center circle of the hex nut black while leaving the "Camaro" lettering in polished aluminum? Then maybe change the silver coloring for black?

If so, that should show a good idea of some different possibilities of this wheel....

Can you get a more straight on shot? And with less light?

All that refection makes it harder to distinguish parts in PS, and paint just those areas.

The only other picture I have of just the wheel is kind of a crappy cell phone picture that the production guy sent me once he had one of the wheels finished. Check it out and let me know if it's something you can work with? If not, I need to figure out how to turn the flash off on my camera and I'll take some more pics. The flash makes them look extra bright.....

The higher resolution the pic, the better.

I couldn't get the 'CAMARO' lettering to stand out front the center cap enough to separate it.

I think it looks really good. I would have chosen these as my first choice versus the chrome iroc-z rims. I got.

They are polished aluminum billet wheels, not chrome.....


Stephen - Unfortunately, those are all the pics I have! I was in a hurry to clean up the car the afternoon that I took and the posted the pics. I would have the grey areas painted in silver, but white cars could have that area done in white, red cars - red, etc.... to match the color coded option that some '91-'92 cars came with.

man black looks good. its like if you leave it polished, its to much. but then if you make it black there isnt enough polished. *scratches head* f*ck it i cant think of anyting. start a poll or something. lol

well what if you just knocked the polish off of the parts you wanted black? not like silver, but aluminum without the shine. with more of a dull, lighter shade, gunmetal look to it? IMO that WOULD look the best..

Ahhhhh! Put em on the car so we can see them! After I saw the chrome irocs in bigger sizes I always wished the same for the 91-92.

I've looked at tons of rims for my car and never been satisfied with the appearance (except for boze stingers).

I wonder if boyd would add these to their line? They do look great, especially with the color offsets.

oh crap, put me in for a set of red!!!! i think what you had them do is cool as heLL. i would think the blacked out ones would look really sharp on your car. but so does the way they are now. i will be going completely away from stock looking rims. love your car, and hope all is figured out for what you want to do with them.

i did them that way for the reason being that i think getting the rims powder coatet or how ever you spell that, on chrome will look nice and also i could make them in a solid format too, if thats what you like to see?

Hey I just noticed that in the first pic you posted that the area behind the spokes is painted black. Is that the way they came from Boyd or is that something you had done afterwards?

Also, in the same pic, the hex is black--was this photoshopped or were you using a factory center section with the boyd signature outer ring? Just curious.

Car looks great! Thanks for getting these made. The thirdgen SLP ZR1's were nice, but then everyone complained that they weren't any wider than stock. Now that you've gotten these made, it seems everyone has a reason why they aren't happy with them. I personally think they look great. They're deep dished, polished billet, no spacers needed, and made by Boyd--hell yeah.
