BEST TIRES FOR MY BIRD

My rims are 15" Firebird rims similar to shown below. I've tried searching with little help for Firebirds but... what is the width of these 15" rims?

Also, what are the best drag tires that will also be good on the street/highway for summer driving on these rims? No idea about sizes but right now I've got 15" on the rear and 14" on the front just because I blew a front tire that was 15" and had an extra set of 14's.

I dunno if a Slick in the rear and skinny in the front is the best setup or just go with the same tires all around, etc. You guys tell me!

Re: BEST TIRES FOR MY BIRD

the rim size should be on the wheel, 15X7.5", i think they're 7.5," but not sure, if it's a daily driver i would say no to the slick and skinnies

they are 7 not 7.5.
but you can go as high as 275/60 15 on the rear and 255/60 15 for the front.
the rims have the width stamped on then in the back.

Tony, ive been told the max you could get away with on a 15x7" rim was 255?
I bet the tire must bluge quite abit if it 275 on a 7" rim

well you are right there. im pushing it with the 275/60 15 on the rears. but the difference is less than 1/2 inch - and since im not road racing or running the corners fast, nor am i drag racing with them, they are more for show than go.
they are plenty safe.
the real problem is getting them so big that they literally roll off the rim and that can happen.
i have seen them as big as 305 and 295 on stock rims and the bulge gets a little big even for me and i like the look of bulging tires.
what i did was got a set of 255's and had them put them on the front to see if they fit. if they didn't i was going to run them on the rear and 235's on the front.
well they fit on the front lock to lock so i then immediately bought a set of 275's.
they are pretty big but i love the look.
car and rubber sellers dont want to get sued so they always recommend something smaller than the car will actually take, just to be safe.
others differ but that is my feelings.
look at my pics if you like the look of 275 go for it if not dont.
275 ride at 27.99 so there is a bit of a rake to it but i like that look too.
speedo off 5 mph at 65 - speedo says 60.
but i am going to add something a little lower in the rear gearing so i will live it for now.

I do like the look of your tires Tony

gives me food for thought, prob gonna have to go with 2 sets of tires, but I think I have to be running the wider rubber when giving it the beans.

anyways getting off topic

Re: BEST TIRES FOR MY BIRD

So running a bigger tire on the rear is worse for cornering and racing?

It's only bad if the tire is to big for the rim, you want widder tires, then you need widder rims, if you want the car to handle ok, to much tire buldge and the rim will roll over the tire durring cornering., if you're just after drag performance that widder tire should help, just don't go past 275 on the 7" wheel and you should be ok
