HI there does anyone have any experence what sorta problems i might have with 275 on the front using a 15 inch rim. I have read that this is not the most uncommon thing but im gonna be doing it using 15 inch rims, does anyone know what sorted issues i might have with clearance to the a arms etc... im thinking of going with spohns if that helps. any advise even if its not 15 inch rim id be interested in knowing Ryan

bad idea. they are too wide for a 7" rim

The rim is not the 7 inch stock rim your thinking of and is wide enough to take the increased width
the rim is 8 inch wide if that help

i wouldnt do it on less than a 9" rim
unless you have a rim suited to the tire, all you are doing is paying extra money for a tire that will not grip any better than the proper sized one.
it will also wear funny and be dangerous in the rain.

if it were me, i'd invest in a set of GOOD 245 or 255 tires.
i dont know if it comes in your size, but the BFG G-Force Sport is a GREAT tire for the money

The rim is an 8 inch and from what ive read that is enough to hold a 275 comfortably.
Can i ask if your saying a 275 will need a 9 inch rim, what would a 295 tire need?

im still also trying to understand the clearance to the a arms to anyone who has done something simular?

really it depends on how concerned about being right you are
most tire manufacturers recommend going no more than 1" wider or narrower with a tire than the wheel width.
275 mm = 10.826 in
therefore, its safe to say that it will not work WELL on an 8" rim...
it would be well suited to a 9.5" rim, but thats an uncommon size in a 15" dia wheel, so 9" should be fine and give you a "bulge" at the sidewall...
another factor is the aspect ratio of the tire.
a 30 series tire will need to be more closely matched than a 70 series tire.
in other words, a bigger sidewall will let you "fudge it" better and safer...

as for what is "correct" you will not get any more grip with a 275 that is bulged than you will with a 245 that is flat across the tread.
only the tread that is touching the ground will have an effect.

if it were my car and your money, i'd get 10" wheels and put good sticky 275 tires on them.
in the front, i'd stick with a 9" or 9.5" wheel and use 255 tires for better turn in feel

remember, sticky tires are better than big tires.
people have made the 295 50 16 BFG's work on a stock IROC wheel, but i guarantee that my 255 tires will have more straight line and cornering grip in ALL CASES, while costing less to boot

one point i forgot to mention is this:
if you do mix tire sizes front to rear, always be sure to get them in the same tire brand, model and specs...
you wouldnt want a grippy summer tire in front and nostalgia muscle car tires in back... you will find yourself facing backwards if you make any sharp turns in the rain.

See what the tire manufacturer you want to run, recommends, and individual owners of THAT SPECIFIC tire. And base your choice on that. Not tires are equal, despite the width they "are"

Some tire manufacturers make their tires a bit over or undersized, despite what they say it is. My Sumitomo 315s are among the (if not THE) narrowest 315 tire out there. My rear rims are 11", but the tires would really fit better on a 10".

275s on the front are easy to do on any rim diameter, if you get the wheel backspacing right.

thanks im thinking maybe a 245 or 255 seems to be the better option probably on a 8 inch rim, and the 295 for the rear sound lik ethey'd b better on a 10 inch from what u said Stephen

Depends a LOT on the sidewall ratio you go with. The BFG 295/50R16 fits good on a stock 16" x 8" 3rd gen wheel. Been there, done that myself. Kinda gave the tires that "Pro Street" look with the bubble-ish sidewalls. :P

Ok im on the hunt for the best tire size that I could possibly fit in the rear and I was viewing the pic that you posted of your car that you had back in the day that doesent look bad at all it just seems perfect to me. So you had them all around? WOW. Cause I currently have 235/60/16 on my car and i'm not loving the look on my car, everyone tells me that there truck tires. lol.

BFG 245s front, 295s rear. But according to Tirerack, for a 16" wheel they are only made in a 285 & 295 now.

60 series ARE truck tires! But on a 15" wheel, if you go too low of a sidewall & you won't will out the wheelwell enough & even with a drop, you'll be setting "high" up off the tires.

1/2 coil cut off fronts, 3/4 coil cut off the rear.
