Nothing going to be cheap about a good set of winter tires for a 3rd gen car.
Also note, you will be better off with a complete set of (4) four winter tires. Reason you have to steer the car and summer tires will not work.

Check Tirerack for some price comparsions.

Re: winter tires

Blizzak

i've had those before when I lived in an area with frequent icy roads. they make a huge difference in traction. an all season is nothing like these. BUT, they feel spongy going around corners, and they wear out really quick, maybe 10k miles. you don't want to run them much in the warm season. hakeplita's also have a good reputation.

edit, oh yeah, u DEFINETLY do NOT want to put only a pair of these like on the rear, they stick twice as good as a normal tire and it'll throw you way off on icy roads if not a set of 4.

good closeout sale if you catch them now. hope its ok to post a link since i have nothin' to do with the site linked to. if not, well slap me with a fish.

Re: winter tires

I used Goodyear Ultra Grip Performance snow tires last winter. As long as you take it easy, they will get you where you need to go. I using size 225/55-16

Re: winter tires

This may be heresy, but I use 4 studded snow tires now, weigh down the back, and I get great traction.

With non-studded snow tires, my wheels spun constantly. 1/2 inch of snow and a slight incline, and I was immobilized.

With the studs, I get better traction than most front wheel drive cars.
