Wheel locks - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

I finally found a set of Firebird factory wheels at pull-a-part that are in excellent shape. The only problem I have is that each wheel has one of those factory wheel locks.

I went to Advanced auto and the guys there said I would have to get the key from the factory...I disagree!!! I saw a wheel lock set with the key in it that looked very very similar to the one on the Bird, but I hesitated buying it for 30 bucks being unsure. The lock on the Bird had 6 or 7 grooves on it ( I counted them lol) It think it was 6 or 7 and no more. Any suggestions on this guys...Please, and thanks.

PS. Since the cars are raised in the air at pull-a-part whats the best method of getting wheels off the front because they spin with every turn.

Any advice

they make removal tools, they just hammer onto the lug and you turn it off. Good luck finding the matching key by chance.

Where can i find the removal tool and do you know exactly what its called?

I believe I usually use an old 13/16 socket to get wheel locks off of parts cars. It's been a while since I've done it but IIRC it's 13/16. Just hammer the socket over the lock and use a breaker bar to loosen it.

thanks for all the helpful advice. I got the wheels off today with a hammer, a 12 point MM socket set( I believe 20MM), a lot of muscle,

and a breaker bar.

ps. they're the gold honeycomb/crosslace wheels off a '92 Firebird. Next thing is grabbing the interior. The seats are almost mint and it has the 140mph speedo.
