sounds stupid but how do you remove the rims/tires?
hi well im 13 and own a 87 iroc 305tpi/auto camaro and i wanna polish the rims (not just using some aluminum polish i mean actually stripping the clear coat, sanding, painting, then polishing) and i dont have much experience about cars a lil but not much because of having no dad or anything but i was just curious on how do you remove the rims/tires?
do you just jack up, remove lugs nuts, and pull of the rim/tire? do you just need a jack and a lug nut wrench?
i bought 1 of them lug nut wrenches a while back so i could clean inside the holes where the lug nuts go on my durango but couldnt get them off not sure if i was using enough pressure though. what way do you turn to loosen the nuts and what way do you turn to tighten
but where do you jack the car up? how do you work the factory jack? im not going be doing the polishing right now i just wanna make sure i can. thx also how long does it usally take to remove the tire/rim and put back on correctly just for 1. thx

Re: sounds stupid but how do you remove the rims/tires?
3/4 socket and a jack,Yes ther is places on the underbody ment for a jack, but I suggest one side at a time getting under the A arm on each side in front and under the axle In the rear. Usually under the "pumpkin" so you can get both rear up at once.
Brake the lugs nuts loose on the front before you jack it up,or your wheel will spin when your trying to break it loose it in the air.
A low profile floor jack is a wonderful thing
always Use jack stands for saftey issues the jack stand will also go under the A-arms in front and axle in rear
Re: sounds stupid but how do you remove the rims/tires?
And I wouldnt sand them,Youl be amazed how shiny they are under the factory clear coat I used "aircraft remover paint remover" and the clear basically fell off.

Re: sounds stupid but how do you remove the rims/tires?
ugh i hate the factory jack...use the two ton.
But ok good its on concrete, this way the jack wont sink nto the ground, lets start with the rear, heres a pic to refer to http://www.myls1.com/howto/panhardbarinstall/6.jpg
set your 2 ton right in the middle of the axle, and block "chaulk" the front wheels with a piece of wood like a 2x4 so the car wont roll back or forth when in the air, remember safty 1st.

Re: sounds stupid but how do you remove the rims/tires?
this thread is so far out of wack I might has well post pollys message here since were on the topic. heres The message from polly(paul)
It has always been like this, and unfortunately, it seams like it still is will always be like this…
Car is not stock, so some people might say it is not a Trans Am anymore. Yes, I am guilty in having a bigger engine, bigger brakes, 9” rearend, stronger gearbox and stronger drivetrain, stronger better looking (in my opinion anyway) wheels and tires etc . Yes, I also do have a lift of hood, lift of hatch and a roll cage. To me, it is still my Trans Am… J
Some people says it is not a Trans Am anymore because you have not the stock wheels. Some people says, wheels are ok, but engine should be stock, Some people says more hp is ok, as long as engine looks stock. Who make the rules?
I (tried to) stop wondering about what people says long time ago, it takes too much time. I do my thing like I want it with my own rules. J Important thing for me, has been to keep the car street driven so it can be driven many miles every year. I like to go cruising in the weekends in the summer. J
