Fixing a Broken Cruise Control Switch

If you are having problems with your cruise control on your third gen w/ TPI not engaging at all, this might be some help for you.

Fixing a Broken Cruise Control Switch

What you see here with the drivers side hush panel removed, is the black connector with 4 wires in a square pattern. The thick black wire coming out of the endis coming from the cruise control switch.

Take the white clip out of the connector. You will notice that it has two metal prongs on each side (4 total). They may look like they are just 2 big prongs but they are seperated in the middle to make one prong per wire.

To test the cruise switch, you need an Ohm Meter. Turn the cruise switch to on which is in the middle(with car not running but ignition on). Now hold the plug just like in the picture and test the resistance between the two metal prongs on the side you are looking at. If the ohm meter doesnt move at all and the switch is in the on position, then you have a bad switch. After I found this out, I went and got 2 momentary buttons (like push button starter switches), and one toggle switch. The buttons must be the ones that are only activated when they are pressed, not the click type buttons. Spliced into the wire running into the black square connector and run the wires to the switches just like in the diagram below. This should help you to get your cruise control back if your switch was messed up before.
