Installed Harwood 4" Outlaw Cowl!

Today I went to Jeg's to get my hood. I was a little unsure of which hood I wanted (2.5" / 4"). So I said, "What the hell," almost evey f-body I see has a 2" harwood, so I went ahead and bought the outlaw. I was really happy with the quality! Smooth on both sides, solid construction, and no low spots. We had it installed within 20 minutes. Getting it to lineup properly was no big deal except for the front hood latch. The Harwood hood comes with a "flat" hook (the hook is what holds down the hood). The stock latch is about .5" lower than the one supplied with the hood. So, like an idiot, we installed the hood with the stock hook, which made the hood (in the front) have a retarded 1.25" gap between hood and bumper. After a few minutes of looking at the car, I realized that the Harwood guys don't just give away free hardware for the hell of it, so I went ahead and used the supplied latch. After a little "fiddling," the hood went right down with little less than a .25" gap between hood and bumper. I could probably mess with it until there is no gap at all, but it started to rain and I don't want my baby getting wet. Oh yeah, this is real important: My car has never been wrecked, therefore, anyone who has wrecked their cars and have used aftermarket fenders etc. (i.e.- not genuine GM body parts), your results may vary!!!!!!

I am debating cowl vs ram air, if cowl: 2" vs 4", then finally latch or pins. If you can put up some pics of your 4" cowl hood, then that may make my decisions a bit easier too! I hear Glass Tek makes great quality hoods too, but they don't have a web site with pictures... I'm not buying what I cannot see!

I don't know. That 4" looks a bit too much for the camaro unless there is actually a need for it (something to back it up).

2ball,

It looks very nice, when are you going to get it painted? You will have to post some once you get it done.

Although I do have to agree with evil, or at least I would prefer to have the ***** to back up a hood like that before I went out on the town. But thats just my opinion. Just do what you like. I do like it a lot though.

Thanks 2BALL.
Now I know why my 4" is gapping in the front.
Gotta use that harwood hook.
Looks great! Ill have to post some of mine too.
I had to use pins in the front of mine it was flapping in the wind at high speeds.

You can look at mine on my website. I got the smaller harwood and I agree that the 4inchers look too much on our thirdgens. Dallasiroc, what kind of pins did you get and were they hard to install? My hood is flapping too at highway speeds.

I did get the 4" for clearance.
In my garage right now is a partially
completed 383 with a B&M megablower
sitting anxiously beside it.
here is a pic of the pins I am using.
I personaly hate the way they look
but is kind of pointless to spend almost
$500 on a hood to have it break.

And carbs for the blower.
Believe me as soon as I get it done I will find someone or hell even buy a digital camera to get em on here....

Like 88 427 I also have the 4" Glasstek on my car. Love the fit and don't think it's too much.

I installed a 4" harwood cowl on mine. It really did make the car. It's silver with black stripes running down the bumpers. I do say it is kinda hard to finda a race, it's a little intimidating.
By the way, did anybody else have to do a lot of trimming on their's. I had to trim the back to clear the windsheild wipers and the front came with about a inch to trim off and the sides alittle. It was a lot of work but I got to say it paid off.

I have had my harwood for 3 years now and it has endured my punishment so far. i am happy with the quality and looks. the only complaint i have is that when first got it they told me i needed 4 hood pins, so i put the pins on just like i was told and the hood bowed up in the middle about 3/4", now that the car is wrecked i called them to see why it was bowed up like that and they told me that i shouldnt have used hood pins, i should have used Zues pins instead :/, i just wish they would make up there minds . long story a little longer i am fixing the hood to accept the zues pins. oh yeah its a outlaw lift off, not the bolt on.
