Axle/Gears: 3.13
16 gauge is thicker than 18. The 16 gauge is heavier because it is thicker. The 16 gauge is going to be expensive.

Yes... black steel, 16 ga. is thicker by .012"
That may not seem like a lot, but it's MUCH easier to bend 18 than 16. Trust me, that's what I do for a living.
16 ga. is ~ 1/16" and 18 ga. is ~3/64". Only 1/64" thinner, but it's much more mallable. You don't want that. You want it stronger.
The only downfall is thicker metal (as said already) is heavier, but retains heat better. That's good for keeping the exhaust hotter and less dense so it flows easier. It's bad because it also gives off higher temps. That'll increase your "under hood temp". More reason to get them coated.
Just an FYI, you know how some companies say "1/8" flanges to resist warping"? That's 11 ga.
