taller tire ?

say like in the 1/4 mile if u have a taller tire will it get u up to a higher speed at a lower rpm, becuz since ur able to go over a larger amount of ground with one rotaion of a tire than u can with a smaller one. becuz i was watchin junkyard wars and they said on one of the dragster shows that with a bigger tire u can cover more ground than with a small tire but with a smaller tire u will get to top speed fast but top out. can anyone help. thanx

sounds like you're right on. a taller tire is like a numerically lower gear ratio. Getting a taller(or shorter) tire will also mess up your speedo though, so either deal with it or change the speedo cable gear in the tranny

sounds right to me. You should just get a set of drag radials for the track(rear only) and bolt them on only when drag racing. Better traction, you can get them a litle taller too, but I wouldn't go overboard especially if you have 2.73s

Yep, I saw someone refer to it as the cheap man's gear mod. By getting a shorter tire you up your gear ratio numerically.

Changing the tire is the same as changing the rear end ratio. Most of the time you wouldnt want to do this (it would probably make you slower with anything less than 3.73's out back), unless you have like 4.1x gears and are maxing out in the quarter mile or have really bad traction. You will have less mechanical advantage so the tires will be harder for the engine to turn. Its kind of a trade off.
