March alternator pulley nowhere near fitting?
I installed the March pulley and bracket setup on my Z yesterday and I ran into one problem. The March alternator fan #221 and pulley #208 do not fit!!!!!!There is a spacer behind the stock fan and pulley on my '82 10si alternator. If I try to reuse this spacer with the March parts the stud does not come all the way through the pulley and fan preventing it from being bolted on at all.Refer to the first pic.
So I then removed this spacer and now the stud comes through the fan and pulley enough to be bolted on but the fan locks tight to the alternator body!!!!Refer to the second pic in the next post.
My only idea right now is to hunt down a smaller/shorter (less height) spacer and run that..or mill this one down.My worry is that the belt alignment will be off.My question here is has anyone running the March set up for a carbed small block ran into this with an older si series alternator???What did you do to fix this????TIA

Washer won't work under the fan as that spacer that does go there in the first pic sits down in a recess around the shaft of the alternator and rides against the front bearing. The washers will lock against the alternator body like the fan does.

I'm the only one that has come across this lil dilemna?I called March and they pretty much had no clue..nor any ideas.Gonna hit an alternator & starter rebuilding shop this weekend to see if they have any of these spacers in assorted sizes.Thinking one from a later ('85+) may owrk as they already has serpentine pulleys on them...or get this one milled down.

As I thought in my last post.."Thinking one from a later ('85+) may work as they already has serpentine pulleys on them" was right.I got the spacer out of an '86 alternator from a T/A I had parted out years ago.The stock spacer for the '82 alt was 5/8"..way too thick to work with the March pulleys. The '86 alt spacer was 5/32"..worked perfectly with the March pulleys.Just wanted to update this in case anyone ever runs into this and needs an answer.
