Anyone have any good to say about the BBK 58mm TB?

I need a 58MM TB TO finish the SuperRamed 406 IM building. I would like to get the BBK because of the 309.00 price tag. But I have heard good and bad about them. Are they any good?

What about the holley unit? 500.00 for the accel unit just seems like way to much.

My roommate has a 52MM BBK. I like it, and it looks like it is good quality. No probs with the install. There really isn't much to a TB to make it good or bad, so if I were going to buy a new one, I would get the cheapest.

BTW: The BBKs sound like a supercharger. They make a high pitch wistle noise. I think that is cool too.

I have an Accell/LPE 58mm TB, but I bough it used and cheap.

Hey Steve....do you know if my stock rubber TB to airbox tube will work with the SuperRam? I heard it pushes the TB closer to the Radiator. IM leaning towards the BBK.. what you say makes good sense.

BTW..did you get that MiniRam on yet! I want to know what the pros and cons are between the SuperRam and MiniRam! I will be following you swap to see.

I have the BBK 52mm TB. The only problem I ever heard about it, came from 4th genners who put it on straight out of the box, and then later found it would not idle down all the way.

So, when I got mine, I noticed that BBK paints a coating on the backside of the throttle blades and interior of the throttle bore. I opened the blades, and sure enough, the paint left a ridge after tearing it from opening the blades. Very minor, but that was the only possibilty I could see. So, I used a little 3M toughy pad and smoothed out the ridge. I have never experinced an idling problem.

It sounds awesome, it does have a distinct and unique sound. You can listen to mine here: http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/g...031/idling.mpg

The Super Ram does push the TB closer to the air box, but I could still force the rubber hose on. Actually, I put it on first and pushed the lid to the air box back until I could latch it.

I hate mine...Cast finish looks like crap after a few weeks, and the throttle spring is waaaay to firm. Hard to ease in to throttle. Not good when trying to leave a stoplight gracefully in my car! Holley billet 58mm coming from Jegs...

Im happy with my BBK 58mm TB.

My finish never faded. I never really noticed the stiff spring thing GMI fast mentioned though.

good luck.

They are VERY stiff. That very reason would deter me from purchasing one. If possible, change the spring, especially with a manual trans. Rapid clutch wear might be a problem if you travel in traffic often- less control (riding the clutch so the car does not jump). Like anything else you can get used to it though. You cannot beat the price.

If your Throttle is real stiff, I would say that you probably have a problem with the cable. I could be wrong, but when I put my BBK 58mm on I noticed absolutely no difference.

No, cable is fine. Spring is stiff. Guido, what I meant was that cast aluminum is harder to clean and dulls faster than polished billet. Glad yours is okay!

I am grabbing a Holley unit. Billet construction, and not much more than the BBK...

Hey MikeH, I'm installing a 383 with Edelbrock 64cc RPM heads and MINI-RAM I in an 86 4+3 Vette. The owner bought a BBK 58mm and when we got it, the blades were really hard to open. This unit came from SUMMIT, so he is sending it back and get a HOLLEY unit instead. From our observation, it seemed as if the blades were just too tight in the bore. When we finally got it opened, the bore was scuffed. It probably could be fixed by just using some 000 steelwool in the bore and on the edges of the blades to relieve some clearance. HTH's

The 58mm BBK TB came today....I checked it out. The spring seems fine to me its firm but not too stiff. And the blades move freely no sticking at all, The threads look okay too. IM happy with it.

They probably have or had a quality control problem. When its in I will post what i think of it then.

Thanks for all your opinions!
