Re: Powerhouse 335 Stroker Kit
They are crazy good. I get it. They make the SBC look like a flathead. But in many circles, the Ford flathead V8 is still a much loved and indispensable piece.
One of my best friends races. I've been surprised that he has not made the jump. I'm sure for some older guys like me and him, it's a matter of comfort level to some degree.

I don't think anyone would deny the logic that there may be more efficient, or cost effective (and there's a lengthy argument to be had about that one), ways to increase power.
But to me, this is a lot like the choice of color. There's an element of personal preference, or taste, involved.
A nice all aluminum LX motor would offer many advantages...time marches on, as does GM engineering. They are substantially better engines than traditional SBCs by just about every measure.
And if someone GAVE me one right now, I'd sell it to buy parts for my traditional old SBC. It's just the way I feel about the new V8s right now. Maybe my opinion will change over time. But I just have NO interest in one.
Where speed is concerned, there are MANY means to an end. If everyone took the same path, this would be an infinitely more boring hobby.
To each his own.

Re: Powerhouse 335 Stroker Kit
At some point, I got parts on the shelf for 334 kit, trick flow 175cc heads (for 305), Comp Cam's best Rollers 1.6, Edelbrock TPI Base (need to port), AS&M Runners and Ported Plenum.... on car Hooker 2055's Jet Hot coated... I need to get a Comp Cams XFI / TPI high lift cam.... got the Astro A5 tranny and built up 10 bolt with 3.42 gears... (no drag slicks).... When the 305 dies (155k miles and still running strong), I'm curious to see what that will do compared to TPI335's 13.4....

Re: Powerhouse 335 Stroker Kit
Matt, thanks... I had picked a XFI / TPI Comp Cams, but didn't like how high the dynamic compression was, so sent it back... in the future I'll take another look...
My T5 had had the .63, but I wanted a better highway gear so I got .73 (I think)...

Personal taste and budget for what one wants for the car plays a role in the decision of which engine to build and how to build it.
My 72 vette has a custom built Dart (sbc)400 & a carb, no regrets passing on an LSx engine for the car. More than a few LS1 C5's have gotten BUTT-HURT messing with the 72. The LS1 drivers usually look like they are about to cry when they see it was a carb'd small block chevy that beat them.
Likewise, only a custom built 383 LS1 would do for my long time daily driver, a white 91 RS. More than a few C5's, 5th Gen SS Camaro's, Foxbody mustangs, Coyote mustangs, Mercedes and so on have gotten BUTT-HURT messing with the 3rd Gen. Half think its an IROC and one asked if it was a 6th gen camaro. No tears yet when they see the LS1 in the 3rd Gen but definitely some watery eyes
It fun to be diffenent and gives you kicks as long as it fits your budget and you can finish the project.
For my 91 RS convertible I've considered: a pullout LS2, a new LS1 383, a new LS6, a junkyard LS7, a pullout LS1, an LT1, a new direct injection LT1, a pullout L98 that gets refreshed and buit as a 396 and taking the near 400,000 mile 305 my white RS's original engine, rebuilding as a 335 just to see what's possible. Ideally running that 335 with an LS1 PCM since that is possible.
I'm happy there are MANY possible ways to build diffent engines for these cars! Enjoy the variety!
