Custom made to order LED backlit gauges from Speedhut.com with GPS and more!
I'll start out with the gauges themselves. 2 big thumbs up. I purchased a 4" GPS 200mph Revolution series speedo and 8k Tach. They arrived packaged nicely and the quality/fit/finish is second to none. I have used gauges from several vendors in previous projects and these hands down are as well-built if not better than most.
Mounting depth is awesome, at less than 2" thick these can easily be mounted in almost any location.
The GPS speedo solved my issue from installing a late model t-56 trans into an early car with a mechanical driven Gauge. (my alternative option was either a clunky conversion box to drive the mechanical speedo or a Transmission tail Housing modification, or lastly new gauges that may not fit the look of the stock dash (which I wanted to keep). All 3 options were upwards of $300) This also allows me infinite tire, wheel or gear changes without the added hassle of calibrating again or messing with gears to drive the mechanical speedos. I have yet to see any signal issues I don’t really live in area with tons of tunnels or similar In the metro area we really only have 2 tunnels and I rarely drive thru them so signal loss won’t be an issue for me.
Then I found Speedhut.com After tons of online research, ranging from viewing car forums all over to googling and lack of BBB complaints, I was sold on the SpeedHut GPS option. The speedo simply requires power, ground and the GPS antenna to work. (Technically more than 3 wires for lighting etc...) but a very easy hookup.
The Tach itself wasn’t much more, Power, ground, lighting and tach signal.
So now onto the extras these offer over many of the competition. Lifetime Warranty! The option to fully customize the look from the font, the face color and design, logos, custom text, nearly infinite backlight options. These guys can make nearly anything you want/need. I recommend trying the virtual tool on the website to design your own. www.speedhut.com
I wanted to keep the look stock so I optioned mine to look as close to the originals as I could with one exception, the backlighting...I went cobalt blue, as it matches my Innovate wideband LED lighting and my Alpine deck, I also opted for white needles that illuminate in red for the contrast (looks very sharp imo). In addition to the custom look, the Gauges have some neat features not found on a lot of other gauges. One I’ve tried already and is quite useful and fun is the 0-60 timer. There is also a ¼ mile timer, a clock, a directional compass (n,s,e,w) elevation and more… The tach has LED programmable progressive warning lights for redline, shift point and a progressive rpm indicator up-to the shift/redline points and I believe I read a playback option.
Wiring was a snap; instructions are very clear and easy to understand. If I recall correctly they also offer a wire harness when purchasing 4 or more gauges that allows a “daisy chain” type connection for the power and lighting. That’s nice when installing several gauges I am sure.
Having an early 3rd gen bird, options are limited (nonexistent really) for a turnkey gauge option. When originally building my car, I sent out my factory 85mph gauge to be recalibrated and re-faced to read 140. This cost me somewhere upwards of $150 and was decent for when I was still running a 700r4 with a mechanical output, but the t-56 swap really spurred this upgrade. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend these to anyone.
They also offer many sizes and gauge layouts, as well as quality levels, the Revolution series is their current flagship line with all the available bells and whistles.
I am currently working with them on building 2 additional 4” gauges that will replace my factory fuel, temp, volts and oil pressure. They currently do not offer a dual gauge option for “accessory” type gauges but are in the process of making them and I may be one of the 1st to get some. The options are amazing for the current offerings though. For example they offer a “quad” gauge, which contains all of the accessory gauges I need in a single package, for the price, you get all new senders where required, wiring etc.. I almost considered ordering a quad and then having them custom make just one that contained maybe a fuel pressure, wideband, vac, and maybe one other thing, but didn’t want to get too carried away. They really can do nearly anything.
Bonus! These guys are made in the good ole USA! I always try to use a product from an American company whenever possible.
The website made choosing and designing the gauges very easy. Nearly any bit of info you could want is online, very little need to actually speak to anyone unless going more custom than the website shows (which you can do).
Now onto the customer service side, the service itself was great, when you call they are very friendly and knowledgeable (will get the answer if they don’t have it). If I had to complain at all it is the response time to email inquiries. I assume they probably get a ton, but I have sent in a couple they went unanswered until I called to follow up.
Attached are a couple of pictures. They were taken with my cell phone so they are not studio quality by any means but they give more than a good representation of the product.

Re: SpeedHut.com Gauges
I would presume there will always be lag, but the real purpose of the speedo is to prevent speeding tickets, for cruise it will be just fine. Im curious to hear how much the lag is, though. I'd assume it would take a few seconds.

Re: SpeedHut.com Gauges
Using the stock gauge plate, I'm thinking:
Dual 160 Speed/Fuel with GPS
Dual Tach with A/F ratio (when/if available)
Water Temp
Oil PSI
Trans Temp
That still leaves out Volts, Oil Temp, Fuel Pressure.....
Dual 160 Speed/Fuel with GPS

Water Temp
Oil PSI
Trans Temp
That still leaves out Volts, Oil Temp, Fuel Pressure.....

I've got a set of speedhut gauges as well (not installed yet) but would definitely look at dual guages if they get some out there.

Ive been looking to replace my guages i had been looking at the autometer cobalt guages but they totalled to around 800 for 6 guages which was way to high but by getting some through speedhut i can get the same 6 guages and customize them to look exactly like them for 468

Re: SpeedHut.com Gauges
I contacted them today about some custom gauges. They said they could do a dual Tach (0-8000) with a Oil PSI (0-100). It would look very much like their dual speedo, but with a tach. $60 extra to do it.
I got the wife's approval!
Dual Speedo with gas gauge
Dual Tach with oil psi
Water Temp, Trans Temp or Volts, AF Ratio
All in the stock cluster :-)

Re: Custom made to order LED backlit gauges from Speedhut.com with GPS and more!
You know one of the best parts about this upgrade is the night visibility. The stock lighting in these early 3rd gens sucked, seemed like they were lit by little candles at best. Even though I had upgraded the bulbs to superbright LED's its was still hard to see at night. I drove the T/A to work today and while sitting in the ramp at work, I played with the settings for the warning lights. Its cool cause it allows you to set high/low warning lights so I set those and calibrated my fuel gauge with one of the pre-set programs 0-90 ohms. I cant wait to get some miles on the car this year and actually enjoy what I built

I'm currently dealing with the people right now, they will bundle all of them and give you a discount. They end up right around the same price as anyone else if not less and they're great quality

Did you have to modify the original gauge panel to mount them? Or did they drop right in?

They fit about perfect behind the dash panel, in my case I did mod the cluster frame behind it originally because I was only able to order the speedo and tach while they designed the "dual" gauges so I was running 1/2 speedhut and 1/2 stock for a while
If you wanted to make a simple mount plate behind the front trim, you could yank the cluster out all together. The are really thin take a look at their site for full deminsions

Just 2 days ago, Speedhut quoted me $25 per gauge to get the dual sweeps as Top/Bottom like the stock gauges are, not Left/Right like the ones shown above.

I didn't order them. Can't afford the +-$400 to replace a full set of functioning gauges. Maybe if I sold my 2 sets full sets of great clusters I could afford half of them.

I routed mine under the dash and out to inside the engine bay. It picks up signals fine through my Hood.

Not sure what size you need measure them and give them a call if they don't list the air online.

Those look stunning. The best setup I've seen with aftermarket guages in a 3rd gen, by far.

I am very pleased so far and have logged just over 600 miles on them now. Not a single complaint

Great find; the gauages look great. These are probably the nicest upgrade I've seen in a white. I orderd a full set to upgrade my ta. Cant wait for them to come in.
