Changing Plugs w/Headers? Buy a Go-Thru Socket Set and Ease the Pain
The 21-piece SAE/Metric go-thru socket set from Harbor Freight (#67974), seen below, makes short work of changing plugs in the close quarters that often accompany headers. At around $25, the set is a bargain (around $19 or so with a coupon). Sears makes a much larger and more expensive set, Max Axess, if you’re interested.

Nice find, James! I bought the short header socket from SLP a few years ago... made changing plugs much easier. Either way, it's better on your knuckles

Necessity is the mother of invention. Looks useful. I like the ratcheting ability of the go-thru, however--which, BTW, isn't as fine as the Sears' version, but works very well for the application at hand.

I have that set from Sears. Gear-Ratchet pass through sockets and they do work very nice. I stll have to go from underneath to get to my back two passenger side plugs due to the design of my Edelbrock TES headers, but it's much easier with the pass through socket.

Taking off the starter helps immensely trying to get to the two back side passenger side plugs.

Nice set if you need multiple sizes.
I just bought a cheap spark plug socket from advance. I made sure it had the inner hex all the way down. Then I cut the socket real short then took a drill and opened the end up where the ceramic part could slip through. Worked great for $2.

I ground off the side of a spark plug socket , it still holds together so I can tighten no problem . I went through plugs a lot because of the warm up cycle not working properly .

Re: Changing Plugs w/Headers? Buy a Go-Thru Socket Set and Ease the Pain
When I first put the motor (and headers) into my IROC, I had a rich condition that resulted in me changing plugs every 100 miles. In short order, I managed to get the whole process knocked down to a 25 minute job, including jacking the car up.
A 5/8" ratcheting wrench, and a cheap 5/8 socket cut down just long enough to fit over the back of the plug wound up being a god-send.
That said, this tool kit looks like a great idea in general as well as for plug R&R, so I may give it a try!

Re: Changing Plugs w/Headers? Buy a Go-Thru Socket Set and Ease the Pain
The official SLP spark plug tool is/was a 5/8" Craftsman spark plug socket cut down to about 1.5" long and the square drive bored out so the porcelain would slide through. I made my own with a cut off wheel and a carbide cutter, which worked great with SLP headers.

I have a similar box wrench that I use :
I made this one way back in the day:
The collar is slid up to get the socket over the plug and slid down to keep the socket from opening when applying torque.

Does the engine run better, smoother, worse? Is the check engine light always on? Gas mileage? Up or down? Or is it exactly the same as when all that hardware was on the engine? Thanks again.

Great tool kit but you spend that money and only need the 5/8 socket to change the plug.
Better off just buying the SLP or power master 2 pc socket set. as it take less space in a tool box.
If you have the time and tools just get a 5/8 spark plug socket with a hex end and modify it.
Good sockets are forged, cutting them to length you can do with a cut off wheel.
opening up the hex head you will snap drill bits all day, you need to use a carbide grinding bit.
but it an hour or less you have the same tool for a fraction of the cost..

Pretty much what I was going to suggest. I have a snap on double offset box wrench set that is invaluable for plug changes.
