moroso fabricated trans pan.FIXED!Free pan for my Trouble..

just adding a moroso aluminum fabbed trans pan to aftermarket trans and found the first one to shallow to fit.. moroso told me it should be 2.375 deep(top of rail to outside bottom) but it sits at 2.300 top to bottom.. and the auxiliary valve body hit the bottom of the pan.
even the stock pan sits at 2.340 deep.. I even removed 1/16" from the bottom of the auxiliary valve body..still a no go...$165.97.ea.so I orderd a 2nd pan to see if maby the first pan was a goof...as the fabed pans are so light weight..

I have other pans..they all fit...the moroso is getting a 2nd try
if its a fail...that's a $320+ refund...or.. will try stefs ($205)

Re: moroso fabricated trans pan..to shallow

the 2nd pan came in today it also will not fit... it hits the filter and the valve body..
moroso offered to make me a pan that will fit.. the stock GM reg pan fits fine...so will another aftermarket pan...

I'm going to take them up on the offer to make me a pan..
all they would have to do is add 1/2" over all.. to the pan they sell now...
the tech guys at moroso are scratching there heads..they tell me they have been selling this pan from 2002..and this is the first problem they have come across...
the 2 pans I picked up from summit are the same lot numbers..im thinking sombodys goofed something up...as moroso says.. its 2 3/8" deep.. but its not even 2 1/4" deep..

Re: moroso fabricated trans pan..to shallow

Yeah I've had many problems with their fabricated aluminium pans. Fitment is terrible. The flanges are never flat, dimensions are often bad..... I found rust inside one of their fabricobbled oil pickups.

I want to like their products but it's pretty hard with the quality I've seen.

Re: moroso fabricated trans pan..to shallow

the pan rails are Flat..the pan its self is good looking.. (have 2 of them now..lol)
But it will not fit the trans..as the valve body and filter keep it from sitting on the case..
have been working with Jim at moroso. they tell me they have a case and have orderd a Valve body..and will work it out to see whats up...(give them time to work on it)will make me a pan...

at this time I have 2 of there 700R4 pans..(same lot #)..and will be sending them back to Summit.
as of today I orderd a trans Pan from Stef's..it was about $205 from summit. I called Stef's to see if it was instock (yes it is) before I placed the order with summit as it will be drop shipped. to me... doing the car unit by unit...and wanting the pan I want..i have others polished cast..(they are about 3 or 4 lbs) want to keep it on the 1 to 2 lbs or less..
the Moroso pan is set up for a temp bung..the stef's is not...but I have the auto meter inline temp kit as well..just want it simple...

Re: moroso fabricated trans pan..to shallow

I have had the pleasure (displeasure?) of installing half a dozen of their 4G63 (Mitsi EVO 8) pans because they are the only supplier of a wet sump race pan..... They are WAY not flat. And they usually don't clear the main bearing girdle. The turbo oil return flange looks like it was formed by a dull apprentice...... and for this pleasure they get you for over $700. They usually require 3-4 hours of reworking for this pleasure.

And I've seen rust on the inside of oil pickup tubes - more than 1 of them! Where the zinc plating didn't seep past the welded mesh screen when they dipped it. Who welds up a pickup tube with rusty metal or stores them prior to plating in an environment where they may rust? Who does that?!?

I avoid their products if I can because of my experiences. Unfortunately they are the only game in town for some items.

Re: moroso fabricated trans pan..to shallow

EVERY AFTERMARKET PART MADE by Sonnax and TCI...whats it look like? (case is GM..cryo treated)
With Gm rear 5 pinon rear plant
Sonnax 6 pinon front planet (close ratio gearing) no more RPM drop from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.

now for pics
the pan rails I have are flat...the pans are not deep enough to fit. so I'm right there with ya.

700R4 Trans brake by TCI

even took off 1/16" inch off the axl valve body..still no fit..and that's without a filter..lol..with a filter.. forget about it.

Re: moroso fabricated trans pan..to shallow..NOW W/PICS

Already been down this road with moroso. I had the pan it didnt fit. Sent it back. They checked it. Said it was within spec. I measured it with a straight edge it wasnt. They told me I needed this filter. Bought it. Was for a corvettes and totally wrong. Took a rubber mallet and it fits now. Dont bother going back and forth with them. They are all like that. What hits is the filter. Tap in area where filter sump sits. All is good now.

Re: moroso fabricated trans pan..to shallow..NOW W/PICS

I feel ya...but I do think this needs to be addressed..there is no way this lot of 700 trans pans will fit..even with a big hammer.. Moroso can work on it or not..i just got the Stef's Pan today.($204.97). fits 100%with 1/4" clearing the filter and valve body.. asked Jim at moroso for some swag for all the work trying the Moroso pan..lol we will see...the 2 pans I tried out are off by 1/4"...

LOT# is lower left on Moroso Lable on box under the flag 121279

Re: moroso fabricated trans pan..to shallow..NOW W/PICS

Didnt know stefs made one. Ill have to look into it. I wasnt pleased with the moroso pan. But they wouldn't take it back because I had bought it over 2 month before and they insisted specifically that it was correct. It isnt. Its off. It needs to be addressed.

There pan was literally .10 off. Thats it. I measured it about a 100 times. They didnt care or listen. I got so sick of sending the pan back and forth and being told Im wrong I just took a rubber mallet to it.. It will be stefs next time. Its in the filter area it hits. Maybe design changes on the filter sump? I forget the measurements moroso said their pan is depth wise, but it wasnt, it was off. Then they tell me my measuring tool is off they measure with lasers,ya ok.

Re: moroso fabricated trans pan..to shallow..NOW W/PICS

moroso has a fram filter they asked me to try..still no fit...(the fram filter is the same as GM puts in there units)..at this time they know the pans with this Lot number will not work...if you got your pan from summit..even summit knows they don't fit...as I returned 2 pans to them for a refund..and orderd the Stef's pan from them.. even beat up they should take it back...as none of the pans they stock at this time will fit any 700R4/4L60/4L60E..
moroso told me. they would make me a pan that will work/fit....
last week when I was talking with them..they told me they orderd a valve body to put on the case to check it...lol..why did they not have one on it to start with....just sayn...

what it comes down to..they made a lot number of pans I know/they know and summit knows..Do not fit anything made...
they are all junk..wall hangers..lets see what they do for us guys who buy the parts they make.. I say stand your ground..
if they are going to be a stand up Manufacturer...lets have them send you a new pan that fits...(they know they don't fit) at this time..

Re: moroso fabricated trans pan..to shallow..NOW W/PICS

Really they fit a pan on a trans not assembled? I got mine through jegs. They told me it was to long ago and I couldn't return. Moroso told me I didnt need to buy a new one as mine was in spec. I was so aggrevated of the whole ordeal I clearenced it my self. Btw what are the lot numbers and where are they located on the pan. Mines fully installed with fluid. Would be a mess to change it now. Ill never buy another Moroso product again. Send them a link to this thread. It didnt fit my 700 or the 4l60e. What made laugh the most was the fram number they gave me to use. They originally tried to bkame me using the wrong filter. It was for an early 90s or something corvette maybe later model but it was corvette. Imagine the stock 700 filter. Now add an extension tube off the pickup hole down...2 inches. I laughed when I opened the box. They obviously dont know whats going on. That filter was special order, $60 .I had to return it and eat the shipping. Screw them.

Re: moroso fabricated trans pan..to shallow..NOW W/PICS

iv been talking to them...(Moroso) they tell me they have never run into this problem...
do you still have the box? I ask...as I want ya to look at the lot number...but its ok if ya don't...Ill work on getting ya a new pan from them for ya...its the least they could do!
I don't buy from jegs...unless its almost Free....summit has taken returns from me..even after 3 years....(wheels) and iv never paid to ship anything back..they aways pick up the dime..summit is stand up 110%.. I make sure every thing is back in the box..as shipped.. knowing it will go to the nexed guy..or on sale at the summit store front...

UP DATE

Moroso has told me.. the problem is resolved/fixed.. and is sending me a new pan ..no charg.. just sent them my shipping info..will do a update when it arrives. with test fit..
I would like to have the trans pan and oil pan matching (same maker). and like the fittings that moroso has in there pan..
if it works. ill send back the Stef's pan. saving $204..

On a Side Note:.. I was going to send the new pan(Free) to a member (see above post back in July..POST.#16) who had run into problems with his Moroso pan.in the past....but turned out to be a Troll!.on one of my other post..after this post..(wow)... SO ILL SAVE my self $204 and just Keep it...after all..
iv gone out of my way to do nice things for other members on this site.(my Trade rating should be over (120)..(NOT EVERYBODY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!)
..with out. asking anything in return...just enjoy the parts.or what ever it is I can do for them...it pays to be Professional when dealing with Manufacturers. I have always gotten Swag/Freebis. and always try to help others...as it pays off in the end..its called.. Karma...

now if the new Moroso pan fits..the fittings will come in handy.. and it will match the $600+ oil pan....
