One of my biggest fears getting my IROC repainted was getting the body side moldings with the metal insert that they don't make anymore. Originally the paint color was injected to the plastic to match the car.
Hawks now makes pre cut side moldings in a 6-piece kit for $80. When you order they need to know your paint color because the moldings come paintable black or grey I believe.
The guy who painted my car was worried about using aftermarket parts, but he even said afterwards that he thinks they're better than the originals and look awesome painted to match.
That's great to hear, as this is not an easy part to find in good used condition.
Yeah, the place I worked for 20 years ago would never re-use the side moldings and this guy said the same thing.. said they won't look right if you try to save them and put them back on..
If you can find NOS in your color you're lucky but will pay a lot.. I bet you'd only find them in fire engine red..
No one would know these are aftermarket replicas except for a real stickler that would notice they match the paint perfectly.. The Original infused moldings were not a perfect match and not as glossy..
