Need help with Heads and Cam e.t.c.

O.k., I am getting ready to order everthing I need for my new zz4 short block. I am still undecided on heads and a cam though. I really like the AFR 190s.. I also like the Lunati 232-242 roller cam with .510int .525exh. I plan to run the Crane gold 1.6 rollers too. My intake runners, plenum and base are still stock (aside from porting plenum and matching the runners). I know that this intake setup might be a bit restrictive for this combo, but I am planning for a superram soon. Can I use the accel supperram base with the stock runners and plenum? (I would probably just go ahead with the whole setup but I just spent all this time porting the stock plenum and I have to justify it for at least a little while!) I also have 24lb. bosch blue tops. Does this all sound like a suitable combo? I have tried to do alot of research before posting and this is what seemed best to me. Is low 13s obtainable with this combo? Thanks for any advice!

Well evrything you have sounds good.. BUT...

You need to upgrade the intake.. those stock runners, intake and such are not going to help the cam and heads at all.. Do it right the first time.. don't waste your time on the stock stuff.. either go with a Superram or even a miniram.

I have a Miniram and zz9 combo on my 10:1 compression 357 (350 .040" over) and pocket ported L98 Vette heads.. it seems to scream. I will have track times in 2 weeks and hopefully a dyno run next week

Motor is fresh with 1300miles

low 13s? what does the car run now. YOu don't even need major heads/cam to run that with the right set up....low 13s is not really that hard of a goal to reach...

give us more details of what you are looking for...excellent drivability? drag race only? low 13s is too hard to tell you what to do really. cause a stock zz4 motor will do that

Yes, the accel base is a direct replacement for the stock base, and matches up fine with the stock runners. You might want to port-match it to the heads as well. With that cam on the stock runners, you'll probably run out of air around 5000-5500. Once you get the superram or miniram you'll pull another 1000 rpms or more and be flying! Throw a good stall converter in there and some drag radials and you'll hit 12's easily!

Also, if you plan on using that cam you wont need the 1.6 rockers. The AFR heads max around .500 lift which your cam has already surpassed. I had my AFR heads flowed, and they flowed 260 @ .500 lift and they fell off after that.

I had a custom cam made by comp cams and the lift they supplied was .510/.520

Other than that and the suggestions here, sounds like a good combo.

Thanks Fellas! Yeah, I was just going to try to make sure I was on the conservative side saying 13s. I will probably use this car about every other day and to the strip now and then. Its a t-5 (I know, the rear and the trans are gonna be toast if I lay into em'). Its good to know that I can use the accel base, I wanted to know that because I can port match to the heads as suggested and then not have to worry about taking the base off after I save enough for the superram plenum and runners. I don't mind swapping those out after I get it all running, plenum and runners are a piece of cake while on the car even.
Here's a full list of what I plan to put in my 88 Iroc..
-zz4 short block
-afr 190 heads
-lunati 232-242 roller cam
-crane gold rollers 1.5
-high volume moroso oil pump
-cloyes true double roller chain
-steetdamper
-hardened pushrods
-accel afpr
-accel 300+ ignition system
-custom prom
-headers
-smog and cat junked
-custom Y shaped exhaust

Thats the major stuff.. Plus all the other minor usuals.. Thanks for the help!
