AUBURN GEARs

Currently i have a non posi 3:73 in my speed density formula. I want better traction. I noticed in JEGS they sell a mini spool made by AUBURN. It replaces the internal components of your open differential to effectively lock the axles together for for even power distribution to both rear tires.

Anyone used this. Is it any good?
thank you

Speed Density means your formula is a 90-92? If so you can use the SLP take-off torsen posi unit. It'll fit your 3.73 gears if they're for a 3-series carrier, because thats what the posi is.

Hi Kevin, nice talking to you again.

Could you tell me more about the SLP torsen? It would fit a nonposi rear? How much do they run for?

thanks

You can find it on the internet specials page at http://www.slponline.com/ Its $100, and it fits late model thirdgens with 28 spline axles, and 3 series gears. It'll replace an open rear end just fine.

I looked on their internet specials page and it could find it. I have a 92 firebird formula 5.0liter TPI with a 3:73open rear end.

Could you tell me the part number or where its located? It would greatly be appreciated.

a mini spool replaces your spider gears and locks the rear, both wheels pull all the time. great on a race track very bad on the street.

It would be bad because it dosen't allow the wheels to spin at diferent rpm's. So if you like to go around corners at all you'll have a tough time of it.

Yeah, the minispoool isn't great for the street, but you want the auburn unit which comes in the new firebirds and camaros. It's fine.

Thanks for the responses guys. I appreciate it. I am looking at the SLP takeoff torsen. Now how do I check to see if my rear is compatible with this SLP product. Something about a 3series carrier?

As long as you have a 3-series carrier and 28 spline axles(90 and up) it will fit. Earlier years can use it too as long as they have a 3-series carrier, you just have to get 28 spline axles. I've heard good things about the torsen. It's $299, but I think it's well worth it. The regular one ($99) is supposed to be good too since it came stock in the newer f-bodies.

3 series carrier means you need to have 3.23, 3.42, 3.73, etc gears. A 2-series carrier is 3.08, 2.73, 2.56, and lower.

OK I did some checking today and my rear is a 3 series carrier (3:73 open so thats what im guessing), and a 10bolt. On the housing of the rear it said : GM N
2252 2676

the last thing I need to check is the axle correct? I need to have a 28spline?

How do I check this? I have no clue what car this rear came off.

What the Hell! Screw changing the carrier and shiming up the rear backlash. Just buy a Powertrax Locker from Summit or Jegs and replace the spiders in your driveway. In about 2 hours you will have spool straight line traction and be able to take corners without chewing up tires or being out of control. Not to mention putting stress on weak 7.5" ten bolt axles anyway.
