EAGLE COMPANY DISSERVICE

HI, just had to vent, Well my brother and I are long time users of EAGLE products, crankshafts/rods etc, both big block and small block units , and have been very pleased over the years with there quality and price of there material, but I ran into a problem with there customer disservice today. I had purchased a set of 5.7in sbc H-BEAM rods about a year and a half ago and was going to be used in a later project along with there crankshaft. The problem is when it came time to do the machine work my engine builder discoverd that the the rods were way to big on the crank end and had never seen a set that far out. They were straight and within one gram of what they are shown to be but was way to large on the big end. Well anyway I made a call to them and spoke with a nice gentelman that new my engine builder and said that if he said they were wrong then he had no doubt about his work as he had installed many eagle roataing assemblys, but told me I would have to speak to another gentelman and he would handle it. So when I explanined what had happend to the other guy told me that I had to have a receipt, well getting back to it being a while back when I purchased it and they were new in the origional box still in plastic bags, I could not find my receipt, so he told me I was pretty much out of luck. Well I would understand if they were not new, they had not been touched and as far as that goes if they had been purchased 10 years ago they still sold an defective product and should make it good. Like I stated earlyer that we have been using EAGLE products many many years and should not have even questioned that the product was new, I have always been a big proponent of EAGLE products and they make a very good product but this time they really let me down with the customer service aspect of the buisness. Now its going to cost me extra to have them resized, and to have to have this done to a brand new rod just dosent make sense, especially with the quality control that the always seem to push, like I said this is the first problem I have ever had with an EAGLE product,I would really expect that a company of that quality to stand behind there equipment, reciept or no reciept they still manufactured the unit, but they really let me down.

maybe i'm sneaky, but why not just order a new set of them and return them, then you would have a receipt showing purchase? or a lot of local speed shops just use a basic excel spreadsheet for their purchases, wouldn't be hard to duplicate to get it past their customer service then.

I agree, if they are going to try to screw around with you then you shouldn't feel bad having to "dishonestly" get what you were entitled to in the first place.

Actually, this is a common practice by many companies. no receipt, no return/exchange. Basically it comes down to you prove you bought the rods, not stolen from a shop or individual (not saying you did) but when it comes to high price items you will probably see this from many companies.

I did the old switch-a-roo trick with summit and a holley TBI unit, holley only warrants their TBIs for 90 days, well i have the unit on a show car that only gets driven less then 500 miles a year, well a year after installation the TBI alluminum body cracked where the fuel fittings go into. I origianlly purchased it from summit and the used unit still looked brand new, so I ordered another one, and when it came I packed up the used one in the new box and filled out the warranty card from holley and wrote a note to summit that it broke during normal installation instructions, and sent it back, a couple days later I had a refund on my credit card, worked beautifully! Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, I just wanted to do the right thing even though they did not, I believe in carma and sometimes it takes a while but everyone gets what they need in the end.....lol. Like I said its not like they were used they were shiped that way, defective from the manufacture, I just thought a company of that quality would be very concerned if the put out an inferior product. Thats why reciept or no reciept they should have taken them back at least for inspection, It would have cost them nothing because I offerd to pay the freight both ways. And its not like I was asking them to warranty crower, corrillo,or some whizbang product, just pure and simple customer service, especially for such a long time user and advocate for them.

I have heard a lot of bad things about eagle and their products. The machine shop that I use here in MI has told me many stories about out of round products and rods like zeeyaa has gotten. I have heard so many bad stories that I probably wouldn't buy any eagle products ever.

When I run up against someone in customer service that can't, or won't, try to work with me, I go up a level into management. Usually, by getting to a level that has the authority to overide policy, I am able to work out a solution. Call them back and ask for the customer service manager, or even the president or VP. Explain the time lapse and your desire for exchange only with prepaid freight. You may have better luck getting what you need from them. Good Luck

I keep an old shoe box that has every receipt for every part I have ever bought for my car since I bought it back in 1999... Its not only smart to have for insurance purposes but for situations like your too. Just a handy suggestion

I had hoped someone from EAGLE would comment, but it seems that they dont have any members on this board, I was just currious what explination they had, and maybe comment on what the problem would be about customer services and defective parts. I had went out of my way to give them an oppertunity to make it right, I guess they just dont care. At this point it dosent really matter I had to go ahead and pay my machinist to repair the brand new set of rods, so im out that money. Thanks for all who did comment, so let buyers beware.

Buy good rods to start with, or buy Eagle and have them machined. And always keep your proof of purchase.
