Rockauto any good?

Iv been eyeballing some stuff on rock auto for about a week now and I can say that they have caught my attention with their prices but my only holdback is my buddy bought a rack and pinion from them and it was bad, the. Sent him the wrong lines causing him to work an extra 2 weeks to get it sorted out. So my question is to you guys, how is rock autos parts for our thirdgens? I'm looking at getting tie rod ends and rear shocks from them and more when I have more money if they come out good. Also if the rock auto vender sees this message me please, I can't seem to see the front shocks anywhere on your website. They're all rears.

I bought a bunch of tune up parts from them and everything came quick and was exactly what I ordered.

Re: Rockauto any good?

They're parts aren't cheaply made are they? I mean they're not going to fall apart on me in say 1000 miles or so? And iv already got the 5% coupon. I put all 4 tie rods and my rear shocks in the cart and it came out like $61.96 with shipping and everything and the discount

Re: Rockauto any good?

Like most parts stores, they've got cheap parts and good parts, and they'll give you whichever you want to pay for.

Exactly. Know what you want before you get it (buy quality). They are a great place for me as I'm in a rural area and use them on 3 trucks, my 'vert and sometimes for the boat.

Re: Rockauto any good?

I've been using them for years with good luck. If you aren't in a rush you can save a pretty decent amount of money. I got a radiator for my Maxima for $63 shipped to my front door, about 3 days later. Same exact part at the stores was nearly double (and not in stock anyway). Google for discount codes, 5% off your order pre-shipping is pretty common.

Re: Rockauto any good?

You just have to watch - sometimes they are shipping from multiple warehouses, and they charge shipping for each destination. So shipping could be a killer. I like to catch the closeout deals every now and then. You can catch some deals. I bought a GM ignition module for my TTA for a hundred bucks. Everywhere else, that same module was over 200 bucks.

Re: Rockauto any good?

The biggest problem I have with RockAuto is that the quality of the glue used in the free fridge magnets has gone down. Every time I open the fridge, I have to stop and smooth down the curling edges, and pick up any which have fallen to the floor.

Agreed. I even had to throw one out the other day due to this.

I also like how Rock Auto speaks about itself in 3rd person.

I've been using them the last couple years and will be in the future for sure. No bad experiences (knock on wood), always at least a 5% discount floating around, good prices and being able to get some name brands, especially Delco, is key.

Re: Rockauto any good?

In any case, for me all the parts stores within 1400 miles only have inferior knock-off parts that are twice the price but never in stock, so all my parts come either from Rock Auto, or surprisingly from Amazon.

Re: Rockauto any good?

I never thought about amazon, but I agree with you on the knock off and over priced part. One outer tie rod end for my car at autozone was $24 for the cheap one, the Inner was $19 so I jumped on rockauto after checking the prices lol

Yeah, I use Amazon a lot more these days, too. Being a Prime member often means I pay no shipping and get it in 2 days at the most.

yea those magnets are paper thin, you can't ever use them to hold a piece of paper. so that kinda sucks, otherwise that place is alright.

Love them

The emails they send out are actually useful and contain good deals for parts you might actually want. Good deals, quick shipping, quality parts, accurate catalog. What more can you ask for?

I have used rock several times and they have always been good. Sometimes they are the only ones who sell delco parts. I have had parts from advanced auto go bad so I use rock whenever I can.

Never had a problem here either, been ordering for years. Usually I'll add what I need to my cart, then poke around through the other categories to find anything inexpensive that ships from the same location as the other items in my cart. Don't want a $3 wiper blade turning into a $10 wiper blade just because it needed special shipping in a box all by itself!

Just ordered another batch of stuff from them yesterday. Love their catalog. Many great deals on "Closeouts" plus 5% off coupons all over the place.

Some of their prices really make me scratch my head.. $30-$50 less on the same stuff....

Re: Rockauto any good?

Yeah I just got my package today, all seems to be in order so I'm happy, only thing that bothered me was two of my tie rod end boxes were open but other than that I'm fine with everything so far

Re: Rockauto any good?

Well I do have a complaint kinda, was showing my step dad my parts after he got out of work and was pulling off the parts out of the boxes and I pulled out one of my outer tie rod ends and it wasn't in a package like the others, it wasn't painted or assembled like the others, and had surface rust starting to form on it, well I placed a call to rockauto to see if there was something I missed in the details on the item if there were some used and the guy at rock auto was kinda floored that I received a part like that and shipped me out a new one so I'm happy they made it right, I even offered to ship the Part back or pay for shipping and he said they would cover it. Other than that I'm happy and look forward to placing another order here soon

Re: Rockauto any good?

I have a few comments about Rock Auto:

Pros:

1. very good catalog and ordering process
2. good pricing
3. very good customer service
4. one of the few general parts companies in the US to accept international credit cards and ship internationally (important to me and the main reason I've never bought from Autozone)
5. Also have a UK site which i haven't been through yet but if it has Camaro parts then the shipping would be cheaper.

Cons:
1. Lot of products sourced from China and source not indicated on the catalog. Personally I prefer to support local business where possible and for a US car I would prefer to buy US made parts. I realise that this may cause a cost implication but as long as thats reasonable, I would be ok with this.
2. The shipping from multiple warehouses is a large problem when you ship internationally. It would be useful if Rock Auto could provide a consolidation process, even if there is a small cost as this would help reduce international shipping.

I just made a purchase from them for the first time and I was very happy with the availability of parts, price and speedy shipment.

Re: Rockauto any good?

I just received a cooling fan today in which was urgently needed for my only car not to mention in 100°F weather. Not only the item took 6 days to arrive but the fan motor is not working clearly due to poor packaging and/or manufacture. Now I have to return the item at my expense! To add injury to insult they don't have a replacement! DO NOT waste your money, time or energy with this company. Basically I just gave them $70+ gas$, days wasted This is the 2nd time RockAuto has provided bad service. I normally shop with PARTSGEEK and never had a issue with them and they sell the same brand parts and actually give you your full refund/shipping and dont charge you extra money for the convenience. NEVER AGAIN ROCK AUTO!
