South bay fuel injectors.

So I've had a rough idle and rich condition for a long time. I've been through 3 sets of injectors. 2 sets from ebay and 1 set NEW from napa. All **** and all made my car run worse. so you can understand why i'm a little scared when buying injectors from anywhere. So I read up on south bay fuel injectors ( a sponsor here on tgo) and heard good things. So I messaged them (him?) I forgot his name :/ ) and he explained which one would be best for my 3.1. I explained that I was very leary and scared. He reassured me he had a goood set for me. so I ordered them. Got to me within 4 days and I saw they looked different than the other 3 sets. So I called and he reassured me again. So I installed them today and I must say I am so happy its not funny. My car is running like the day she came off the lot.

All, in all I love south bay. Any injector ill ever want ill go straight to them. 5 star product. 5 star shipping. And most important 5 star customer service.

South Bay is one of the smartest investments I've ever made in my car/engine. Their customer service is great. I was nervous about remanned parts, but I got a full set of 19 lb injectors and never looked back!

I had a great experience with Southbay as well a little over a year ago. They helped me with a few install questions. They even made sure that my wife ordered the right injectors when she got them for me as a surprise anniversary present.

SouthBay is great. I called to order my replacmeent injectors spoke w/ a woman (owner/co-owner). She was a great resource and answered all of my questions. Needless to day, if/when I need injectors again, I am contacting them.

Re: South bay fuel injectors.

Im another one! I found this site just a few months ago and after my car wouldnt start and run hot i knew it was time for injectors. Being a mechanic i did my research and checked with alot of places. I found southbay on this forum and ordered up a set of 8 injectors. Great price, shipping etc. They perform flawlessly and i couldnet be happier. Thanks southbay and Thirdgen.org

Re: South bay fuel injectors.

I love reading this now!! I just ordered a set of 22lbs Bosch design III's + adjustable FPR + new FPR membrane from SFI yesterday. I have been thinking a lot lately what I'm going to do about my injectors, here in Sweden a set of new Accel's cost 870(!) USD and there seems to be people talking crap about Accel.
Now I finally decided to order Bosch 22lbs from SFI instead for a lot less, and I keep reading now how happy everyone is with SFI !
I hope i get a sticker or something in my package so I can brag at Swedish car shows about my SFI injectors :P

Thank you for your purchase! The injectors were shipped out today. Sorry I don't think they included a sticker, but I am going to send one to you.
Let us know how you make out with the injectors.

Yeah it will be a month at least before I drive the car out of the garage (LOTS of snow here now) but when the installation is done, I'll post my review with pics for sure!

Do you know what the original fuel pressure is on a -88 L98 350? I'm going to set the adjustable FPR at stock pressure because the car is all original so far, no chip or anything. When i set the pressure after installation, I plan to connect a pressure gauge to the schrader fitting, have the car turned off and bridge the FP relay connector with a jumper wire, and set the pressure while fuel pump is running. Is that a good way to do it?

Hello Amir,
The injectors will not only be thoroughly cleaned and flow tested, but they will have new orings, screens, etc. Ready for installation!

Re: South bay fuel injectors.

They are a great product fully agree but I had a hard time installing them without one or two leaking every time I put them in. I had to buy skinny o-rings they sale in autozone (part 800-9214 ) and finally double up the o-rings on the top of the injectors and solve the problem.

It may have been my inexperience with fuel injector but after talking to my mechanic he said he had the same issue recently.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to include them in the package since they are really inexpensive and solve my problem.

this is my opinion to make a great product even better.

Re: South bay fuel injectors.

Not sure what the problem was. We don't include the orings because it is never a problem. Unfortunately this may have been a fluke. We purchase our orings at 2000 pcs at a time. We may have recieved a few that were slightly off....
The only time these injectors leak from the rail is either due to the orings and or installation. However I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Ordered a set of 8 injectors from Southbay, accidentally ordered/received the wrong ones. Within the same day they shipped out the correct injectors and they were at my door two days later with a return shipping label for the other set.
Thumbs up! A+ customer service.
Thanks

Re: South bay fuel injectors.

I can chime in and tell you that I just finished replacing my original TPI injectors with Bosch 22lbs from South Bay, and so far all my old engine problems seems to have disappeared.

My problems before injector replacement:
*Intermittently got a SES during highway driving with code 44 (Lean mixture).
*Intermittently got a rolling/surging idle when i was stopped at a red light or intersection while in gear which resulted in SES with code 34 (MAF signal low) and limp home mode until engine was restarted.
*Always hard to start when warm and I had to give it throttle or it wouldn't start at all.
*Intermittent loss of power, not much but still noticeable when driving around and really stomping on the gas, sometimes the real "punch" just wasn't there.

Today after I got it running like it should it was running really great and none of these issues has appeared today.

It starts instantly to a smooth idle when warm without touching the throttle and I love it, sounds so much better than the old looong cranking and cranking with throttle open and finally it ****ing exploded to life so that everyone around me shat their pants and looked at me like I was retarded!

The backside of this job (there is always one right?) was that I also decided to replace the pressure regulator and diaphragm with the adjustable one "while I was in there", and the new diaphragm was faulty somehow so the fuel pressure bled off through it, car ran like **** at first (very lean), with no power. Also the adjuster screw hit the plenum so I couldn't use it at all, had to revert back to the stock regulator lid to put the car back together. So all in all I had to remove the pressure regulator lid 3 times and the plenum twice before I got it to run right. A bad part can happen to anyone though, so I absolutely don't blame SFI for this one, It's not their fault! He offered me a refund for this also, so customer support is great!

My advice:
*Buy your injectors from SFI, they are great, a perfect fit and looks good on the engine!
*If you don't NEED an adjustable FPR, don't even touch the FPR at all if it isn't broken. I was really mad at myself that I even touched it because I had already measured my pressure and it was good.
*If you need an adjustable regulator, I bet you can just dremel or file 1mm or so off the plenum where the screw hits and it will fit, I just didn't want to do this.

I also attach a couple of pics of my old TB gasket, injector tester and a YouTube-video of my homemade injector tester testing one of the old injectors spray pattern, all eight of them tested like this when cold (good spray pattern and no leaks) so there is no way to tell if they're bad when they're cold, apparently!

Testing injector with my homemade injector tester:

Re: South bay fuel injectors.

@keykey.... If I could chime in. In regards to the FPR... many find it beneficial to at least replace the diaphram when doing the injectors. I replaced my diaphram when I replaced my injectors.... and kept the stock FPR. No issues whatsoever. Mu diaphram looked good, but I couldn't resist since I had everything apart.

I felt the same way, I couldn't resist it either, but just lifting the plenum again when you've done it once is a quick job... I mean if you will be forced to replace the regulator because of a failure later it will be easy.

I even bought an EGR gasket and was planning to remove the EGR and cleaning it while I was in there but I changed my mind when time was flying away because of the other problems, I'll deal with it the day I have to.

I don't think my plenum and runners had been taken off since the car was new because goddammit that gasket material was the worst I've ever tried to scrape off and I work full time as a mechanic and have scraped a lot of gaskets! I think the removal of old gasket material took about an hour alone...

Re: South bay fuel injectors.

Just purchased a set of injectors from SouthBay Fuel Injectors, Julie was very helpful and I received my shipment (to Canada) in 3 business days. Great company to deal with.
