Double D-Mods (BUYER BEWARE..STAY AWAY!!)

It's been over two months and I have yet to receive my Double Din Radio mount. I have called several times and the chick that picks up says that they don't have the part in stock and they need to order it. Seriously...this is what you do for a living. Why the ****k would it take you two months to order a trim piece.
I told them how desperate I was to have the piece so that I could finish my stereo project so that my car would be featured in a magazine soon. That did not faze them. So finally, I received an email last week saying that my order had shipped. Knowing that this was an urgent order, they decided to ship my order via Fedex Ground (morons). I have yet to receive it.
Avoid these guys at all costs.

Whoa!

I was going to get one of these for my ride too. After two months they should atleast knock 50% of the total cost off of it.....

Re: Double D-Mods (BUYER BEWARE..STAY AWAY!!)

Customer service just isn't what it used to be. It was your fault they were out of stock right? You ordered it! haha. They take your money and sit on it. Lame. Hope you get it worked out Tommy.

Re: Double D-Mods (BUYER BEWARE..STAY AWAY!!)

I was tossing around the idea of just buying one, but if its like that I think I'll just try my hand at fabbing one out of aluminum or something. It won't look as stockish but it also won't take months to finish it!

I noticed now it says up to 8 weeks for shipping. Don't know if they said that before on their add but no excuse anyway for poor customer service. I won't be buying from them for sure.

Re: Double D-Mods (BUYER BEWARE..STAY AWAY!!)

Sorry IROC-Z but you gotta read the fine print. I've had that page for the double din bezel bookmarked for quite some time now (almost a year) and it has always said "Please allow up to 8 weeks for shipping as all orders are made by hand to order." That's two months to me, seems they've done just what they said.

Re: Double D-Mods (BUYER BEWARE..STAY AWAY!!)

I've talked to them on the phone and they said they somehow turn the stock faceplate into the double din replacement. The stock opening is ~ 1" wider than a double din opening and ~1" shorter, seems hard to do and he wouldn't say how it was possible (trade secret). Anyway they are the only game in town.

It's possible to shave the stock faceplate enough to fit a double din radio but you will need to glue or epoxy some plastic to fill the sides. My friend, a stereo installer and shop owner modded mine. It looked OK but no where as nice as Double Dins though.

I got mine last week. It took them about 8 weeks. I think this post is somewhat misleading. They admit on their site that it takes 6-8 weeks. Mine looks great I think.

That is nice.

Is the grain on the cover different from the rest of the center console?

eh....still kinda pissed at how long it took to get it, and they didn't even try to expedite the shipment. You would think that after calling all those times, and telling them how urgent I needed it, they would atleast send it USPS priority mail. It wouldn't cost them anymore...if anything at all.
Here is what the system looks like now.

No it's the same plastic as stock, the texture maybe slightly smoother than stock though.
As far as I can tell they put the original in a mold and heat it as press it to fit the new mold. just a guess.

If you look at mr iroz's pic, it sure looks like his console and stereo bezel is covered in a material.

I was asking in regards to his set up.

Re: Double D-Mods (BUYER BEWARE..STAY AWAY!!)

If it's covered in something he did it himself because they don't come from doubledmods.com covered in anything. Just made of plastic. Maybe it was just a bad picture because even the ashtray looks like it's been covered with the same stuff.

We ship all orders ground...

It takes two months simply because we have over 300 currently to make and can only make them so fast.

Fedex is usually 3 days to Almost anywhere we ship.
Fedex is daily pickup at our location.
USPS we have to leave and take 45 minutes out of the day to go drop off packages to be there same amount of time.
So it would not have made a difference priority or ground.

Wis to FL is 3days
Wis to CA is 4 days

nice job on install
NORMALLY we are 6-8 weeks.
However winter months are very different. Most cases a little longer as we get sent hundreds of bezels over the winter to make.

Thanks again

Your original bezel is cut. Then a double din frame is inserted and epoxied/glued into place. The remaining holes (from the wider stock GM radios) are filled with epoxy/glue. Then, the frame is sprayed with texturizer/paint.

Only about a million times and spoke to them. If you got 300 back ordered and 1 person making them. then that not really productive is it? Not only are they scam artist. They are not a man of their word. They are excuse makers. Ive got my claims Filed. Never got my stuff and its not surprising.

...or just ask for a refund?

I've seen their stuff installed on forums all over, so they actually do ship them out at some stage.

I've seen more than photos from their website.

They are not simply a scam.

You're just an upset customer. Oh no, get your refund and move on.

I have one on order that's due this week. We will see but I am not concerned. Spoke with Dennis via email over a few weeks and he answered all my questions and made it clear I am looking at 2 months.
I'd you paid via PayPal the can assist in a refund based on your situation.

In fairness he paid for something and has not received it. I can appreciate the frustration with this. Thing to do is go get your money back. I never let anyone get one over on me.
Years ago someone tried to take me for $250 on eBay. This long before they had a return policy favoring the buyer, if it's any better now...so I hounded the guy daily...i got my money back.

Well if that is the case I will get PayPal involved and go fab one myself. I just did one for my 1999 tj wrangler and very pleased I did it myself. Came out better then I had planned.

I will give them the chance to fill my order because I appreciate small businesses and their efforts. If goes past end of Aug then I will do what I must.

When did you order yours?

Ah yours is for a vette. I ordered one for a firebird.
I had fun doing my Jeep bezel but it takes time. They are made for jeeps by another company but I could not bring myself to spend 160 bucks. I paid about 70 to do mine only because I bought a spare bezel on ebay in case I messed up.

Not implying you were hounding anyone. I was stating how I myself handle a company or person who takes my money for a service or product and does not deliver. I am saying if you were wronged then make it right. Hounding, professionally and with decency maybe necessary if just you were justifiably wronged.
In regards to Dennis I would not have laid down 100 bucks if I felt there would be any concerns. I am confident he will deliver the product for me in a timely manor. I researched everything I buy because it's my money and I just don't give it away. Only uncle Sam ro..i mean takes their cut if you will.

Why use DDs if vettenuts is cheaper/faster?
I checked them out (DD), but in the end the time/money was too much.So I just modded my own.

Re: Double D-Mods (BUYER BEWARE..STAY AWAY!!)

Just heard from Dennis, mine in on the list to do this week and ship very soon. Fingers crossed!!! Very excited to get this done.

I will do a write up once its done but look at what I just did. See my radio is a Android I got off eBay, works great! It has wireless built in and 2 USB ports, one on the radio itself and the other a wire coming off the back. It will accept 3G dongle as well. So a while back I bought a front gauge bezel from an earlier bird. The idea was to incorporate the gain switch, which I had in my '86 bird. Anyway, I thought why not modify the blank and put 2 USB ports on it? One from the radio for power, interface, 3G an the other to direct power for charging. See what I did below!

Re: Double D-Mods (BUYER BEWARE..STAY AWAY!!)

So I got my face plate from Dennis last week and I am very happy. It was well done and looks great. I had to modify it a bit by widening the whole to accommodate the Android radio. Mainly because I couldn't get it flush in the modified radio pod, too many wires. It's ok and I love the look. Will put up pic when I have time.

I could have done this myself being i did the same for my Jeep but Dennis is a stand up guy answered all my questions and sells a solid product.
