Hagerty Insurance
So this may not be the right place to post this but it is the only place I could see it remotely fitting.
We are all car people. We have all heard of Hagerty collector car insurance. Does anyone here have it? How is the service if you actually need them to pay out for an accident, theft, or whatever? I am changing the insurance on my car and want to hear other people's opinions and experiences.

Re: Hagerty Insurance
I have them. No issues so far but I have only had my car for a month. Very easy to get coverage over the internet. A little over 300 bucks for the year for my 87 IROC.

Re: Hagerty Insurance
I've gotten a quote also but I heard they are real picky about where the car is stored and vehicle condition. I keep the car on a carport attached to my house during the spring summer and early fall but goes in a garage all winter. I had heard they want the vehicle stored in a locked garage when not in use. As for the condition of the car. I know my car needs a paint job and a few things here and there but it is a work in progress. Overall it's a easy 20 footer and I realize that. That is why I only want to insure it for 8000 (that's about how much money I have in it at this point). Anyone know if they are really that picky?

Re: Hagerty Insurance
All classic car insurance companies are picky where you keep your car. Just the name of the game. If they are going to be giving you agreed upon value and low insurance rates then they want to know that the car is being taken care of properly...ie garaged at all times when not in use.
I have hagarty and have had them for over a year now. No complaints. I have agreed upon value of 15k for my iroc. No mileage limitations like other companies. It can not be used as a commuter car to work and must be garaged as mentioned above. It is about 400 for the year fully covered. Cant really beat that.

Re: Hagerty Insurance
I just recently added a third car to my Hagerty policy and called to discuss overnight road trips. My only complaint is that you must have the car garaged at night even when you are out of town. So, I can't take any of my old cars with me when I go to visit my parents... unless I can find a locked garage to keep it in.

Re: Hagerty Insurance
I tried to insure my IROC with them, but since I'm stationed overseas and even though the car is in the states, they wouldn't insure me. Pretty much only because even though I have insurance where I live, I don't have an insurance policy in the US. Other than that, very nice and friendly, very professional, and very competent (they understand that we modify our cars, and they have a fairly decent knowledge of what each of the modifications are). Very stand up company, and next year when I'm back in the states, I will try again to insure my car with them.

Re: Hagerty Insurance
Hagerty insures both of my Trans Am's. The cars are covered for an agreed value of 12,500.00 each. Both cars are low mileage originals, that we sometimes drive on the weekends. I have my DD's insured with State Farm. Hagerty requires the primary storage facility to be a locked garage, however they cover the cars when on the road to cars shows and such. One car spends much of it's time parked inside of a locked enclosed race car trailer in a carport attached to the garage, and Hagerty told me that was OK.
They will cover the costs of hauling the cars back home if my tow vehicle craps out on the highway. They required proof that we own and drive other cars as DD's, which is not a problem since we own two other cars, an SUV, and a Crewcab Dually pickup. They do require pictures of everything, but cover cars that in the process of having restoration work done.
I priced the same coverage with Grundy, and it was double the cost of coverage with Hagerty. Not sure why, and when I asked, Grundy could not give me an answer.
A friend of mine owns a 69 Corvette and has it insured with Hagerty. He was backing into his garage with the driver's door opened and clipped the door jamb chipping off a three inch wide piece of the fiberglass door on the car. Hagerty handled his claim without any hassles, allowing the owner to pick the shop, get the work done to suit him, and paying for the claim without question. They have not raised his rates after that claim.
That's about all I know about it, but maybe it will help some.

Re: Hagerty Insurance
There is a spot on the application page where you can select a guess on how many miles you will drive a year. Or you could just lie.

I looked in to all the classic insurances for a Chevrolet I have. I went with aaa. They have a policy that was half price from everyone. There is a mileage cap also. But you can drive it wherever you want. Not just to an event

Grundy...
They originally setup for me to have insurance trough my father, since I was legally blind at the time... and no license... No longer, I do have a license...
Just under $300 a year in Tampa Bay FL for $20,000 coverage... I just checked their website and saw a provision for "daily driver", but a lot of the usual, must be garage kept, must have another car for "daily driver", etc...

I have Hagerty at $540 a year with no deductible,$22K agreed value and full coverage. Thankfully I've not had to see how their service is when making a claim...

Re: Hagerty Insurance
Hagerty said that when I get my 79 street/strip car done they won't insure it. I called my agent for a quote on my Iroc. It is perfectly straight, never seen a winter but needed TLC things. Also, the paint isn't perfect. We agreed on a value of 8K. I now have American Classic car Insurance. I pay $270 a year for full coverage, towing, 5000 miles a year and ZERO DEDUCTIBLE!

Re: Hagerty Insurance
grundy was cheaper for me than all the others, and they just wanted pics of the garage and car but if it was parked in the carport or you drove it to your families house over night it would seem easy to me to come up with a reasonable explanation as to why it was there and should still be covered, like just there one night while i had something else in the garage or my dd crapped out and i needed to drive it that day.

So you believe that you can break the rules of an insurance agreement, but if you "come up with a reasonable explanation" there will be no problems. Yes, insurance companies are really just cool dudes.
