Aftermarket shift cable, are they really THAT bad?

Aftermarket shift cable, are they really THAT bad?
I bought one from Auto Zone about 3 years ago and the car sat parked since then until the beginning of April. The car was moved maybe a dozen times in that span. I started driving it and in 200 miles, FAIL. I was less than happy, but it was out of warrantee so I bit the bullet and got one from Advance. I got one month and 600 miles out of it and the exact same failure. The cable cover pulled out of the end that attaches to the tranny bracket.
This time the warrantee covered it, but the clips that hold the ends in the brackets did not have enough spring to snap out in place to secure it properly. I had to shim the clips out to even get the ends to stay in. For now, back up and running, but I have zero faith this will last much longer. There are no odd angles the cable is running at, and nothing binds.
Is this the same issue everyone is having with these? I know there are sub-standard parts, but this seems a little ridiculous. Has anyone tried one from Napa? From my experience, they tend to have better quality parts.

I replaced mine a few years ago, went through 3 in the same day!
all had the same thing happen that yours did, the first one i bought wouldn't clip in the holder, so i used a zip tie to shim it out enough to hold, put the car in park then down into gear and the cable end pulled out, the second one fit without needing to shim but pulled out the same way, the third replacement once again had to be shimmed but has held up for a few years now

So everyone bought theres from AutoZone? What brand? AutoZone. lol. Sorry.
So what aftermarket cables are people having good luck with? This kit is for an automatic, but this is what I was looking to get. Since I already have all other Lokar products for this car. Let me know guys.

3 in one day? I guess I should feel good about getting near 1,000 miles out of two.
IIRC it's the same manufacturer for AZ and advance, made in Israel. (really expected China) Just wondering if Napa is the same crap or another manufacturers crap LOL. I may just have to go the used OEM route. Zero 3gs in the yards around me though. It's only a 10 minute job, but not one I want to do every month or thrice in one day.

Maybe that's why I always sell the OEM shift cables on eBay within 24 hours of listing them.

Yeah, pretty unbelievable. Parts are usually made to at least come close the warrantee period. I can't understand why this would be so hard to replicate a part that will hold up. If I designed it, it would have the reinforcement wires bent at a 90* at the end or even hooked back like a barb to grab the molded end better.

Lol. I know, that's why I said it's for an automatic and thought I'd ask for review on the "shifter cable" for automatics. Why not you know. It's in the same realm Thanks for looking Joe.

I'm still using my OE cable. I need the boot for the end connected to the transmission.

Have final prototype in hand, production should not be far off.

Unfortunately, pretty sure I threw away the last one in disgust. In hindsight I could have taken the boot off at least. If I thought they would have this many problems, I would have turned it in on the warrantee and had a spare to keep in the car.

Yep, I had one break while installing it. I hooked it up inside the car, tightened it nicely at the pan in neutral. I tested it by shifting through the gears and I felt it give. I looked up under the car and it was broken. Apparently, all the cheapie parts store shift cables are made by the same company now. ATP and I forget the other brand.

I am in the market for a good quality one also. I am still using the original, but noticed the other day when changing the trans fluid that the plastic clip piece that "snaps" onto the linkage is barely holding on.
