hawksthirdgenparts.com hate Canadians customer???
I was quoted 45$ for shipping a simple shift ****. (plus exchange rate)
Of course if I live in US it would be free...we all know its still cost something to ship in the US, i'm aware its less...but come on!
I don't mind paying for shipping, but theres a limit.
I'm a seller on eBaY for over 10 years and over 25000 transactions and I ship just about anywhere, I would never ask 45$ to ship a little item like this to Canada or US.
They look to have a decent selection, but anyone in Canada ever order from them?

I personally have not seen anything marked free shipping on hawks site or eBay site. It always says ask or call or shipping quote.

I've heard that shipping things to Canada through UPS is a major pain, so that means there is less competition for parcels shipped to Canada.

UPS is a pain both ways indeed. But tracking online is the best, rarely delayed.
Fedex is not too bad either.
But USPS is easy and cheap, I have most of my stuff sent via usps and very happy and most of the time without extra Duty/taxes to pay.

IMO:
Shipping to Canada - as a matter of fact ALL international shipping - has gotten really expensive. While writing this post I got a basic shipping quote for a small package ( under 12") @ 2 pounds to Canada for a $50 item...... Priority Mail = $32. ( First class was $17 --- RESTRICTIONS APPLY !! )
Business is what business is,..... Someone needs to answer the phone, fill out customs forms, pack the stuff, go to the PO - and not many will do that stuff for free. If you are buying something off the shelf, that's one thing; but extra costs are incurred when parts need to be shipped. Private individuals like you and me end up "eating" these costs...... businesses would not be in business for long if they did.

Re: hawksthirdgenparts.com hate Canadians customer???
I've done quite a bit of north/south shipping across the border. I find that low priority USPS is the best value. The problem is that if a vendor in the USA is set up with a different preferred carrier, it's more work for them to try and figure out how to do it and therefore they charge for the additional PITA.

Hey Lee01, I was mistaken on this shipping quote for you, if it was you I was dealing with on ebay. I can ship it USPS priority mail for $25 in a priority bubble envelope for you. Let me know if that will work for you and I will make sure it ships out for you priority mail for $25. We appreciate your business and look forward to helping you in the future.
Thanks, Steven

I got my wrap around spoiler through Paradise Alley north of Toronto... I think I paid $450 and it's great! I'll also be getting a floor pan from them.
I will always go with the company that ships USPS if I have the choice. If I don't have a choice then I will either not buy the item, but if I REALLY, REALLY need it, then I bite the bullet and eat up the insane fees UPS puts on us just because they can.
What I will be doing is having items dropped off at the border then going across myself and picking them up.

[QUOTE=WTR388;5862889]Except Hawks won't ship their spoilers to Canada (which I can understand for a large fairly fragile object).
We can ship the GTA spoiler to Canada, I shipped one this week to New Brunswick E1A 7N1 and it was $205 with UPS freight. We got with our UPS freight rep and they have worked out some pretty good prices with them on freight orders.

Also just to note that $205 does not include taxes, duties, etc that UPS charges which can get ridiculous... I think as much as 40% of the cost of the item in some cases.

Re: hawksthirdgenparts.com hate Canadians customer???
What's happened within the last few years is that the international shippers are now collecting the Canadian taxes in advance. Larger on-line retailers are including that cost in their international shipping quotes. Summit, for example, does this.
It used to be that at one time a character like myself could order a part from the US, beat the local US state tax, the Canadian HST/GST and of course duties (as most of those were lifted years ago). When the Canadian dollar was on par with the US buck, what was listed as the cost in the Summit catalogue was what I paid with the exception of a modest shipping fee. It would easily beat the retail price at the local Canadian speed shop. 30 to 50% wasn't uncommon.
Sadly, (for me) those days appear to be gone.
I agree that the USPS is the most economical shipper stateside. Any personal transactions I do with my American friends is typically done that way. It just seems that most US retailers have their own dedicated shippers. So we're forced to pay.
Shipping internationally for me is generally done through Canada Post. If an item can take the "slow boat", costs aren't too bad.

Ive ordered tons of stuff from hawks (headers, spoilers, headliner kits etc) and always declare it mys self and literally have saved hundreds from UPS

IT DOESNT HELP THEY SHIP TINY PARTS IN HUGE BOXES...I ORDER A 700r4 transmission governor gear, JUST THE LITTLE PLASTIC GREEN PIECE...IM IN TORONTO CANADA AND IT CAME FROM VANCOUVER, THE PART WAS $8.00 BUCKS AND SHIPPING WAS $25.00. And it came in a huge box you could fit an alternator in this size box. I called and ask y didnt u put it in an envelope. The said store policy...more like mark up.

Re: hawksthirdgenparts.com hate Canadians customer???
The price break on boxes is insane. 3000 of the same box costs the same as 1000. So as few different size boxes a business can keep around the better for the bottom line. It sucks. I bought 3000 custom boxes for my business over 7 years ago in order to pay 52 cents apiece for them rather than $3-4. We still have 600 of them and we moved 3 1/2 years ago so they all have the wrong address on them but I'll be damned if we have more made before we have to.
Also, putting a plastic gear in an envelope or bubble mailer is just asking for trouble.

Re: hawksthirdgenparts.com hate Canadians customer???
Company policy *** MIGHT *** be not to ship international packages "first class". The only way to insure ANY package to Canada using the USPS is to ship Priority International. For example:
I shipped a 2 pound package to Canada last week. First class was $15, Priority was $36. The ONLY way I could get insurance coverage was to use Priority; so the buyer had to pay for it. ( Insurance = MANDATORY ! )
I don't know if that's HAWKs policy or not when using the USPS, but if it is,............ I agree with it.
