this one is also getting a Daytona support in the 5 bolt as that's what I had in the 90s. and don't have to take the pinon assy apart.

I remember reading good reviews about the " Raybestos Composite" Clutch Packs that come in those units.

Re: tryn a YUKON carrier for the 2nd set of gears.

just swaping out the parts from my cast iron 2nd unit 3rd member..to aluminum.
I run Detroit lockers. in all my 3rd members..(I like them)
this is the 2nd gear set 1/4 mile set.. my other unit is for the 8th mile..a bit deeper gear set.. I have a 3rd unit.. that I want to do but its a bit deep with 4.86 gears..ill see how it runs before swapn over to alum on that set. that one if for 29" tires and up.. not something I'm using ...

Very nice indeed.
I could not really see you going with clutch packs for what you drive anyway.

Re: tryn a YUKON carrier for the 2nd set of gears.

the lockers are fun...as you go into a turn(from a red light) or just a slow turn(corner).you feed the outside wheel unlock. as you power out slow or with power. you feel the push forward
on the locked side..and as you start to go striate.that push kicks in on both side...
they don't make any noise. like some say.(theres are not set up right.) you would never know it was a locker until you feel it.. drive forward 8 to 10 feet and the rear wheels both lock like a spool...I like them for street driving..you can beat on them. no need to add anything to the Lube..

I've been looking at these and the MOSER unit. Do you know if they are comparable in quality?

Re: tryn a YUKON carrier for the 2nd set of gears.

I can tell you. I have looked upclose at all the top name brands..i have paid for..to look at.and sold a lot of parts..just to look at them close..to look at them first hand..
some of the top name brand. parts have the same (need to be cleaned up) probs..so I would say save a few bucks and get one..i will say this..get the Daytona support from the same maker as the housing... I'm going to do a 3rd unit.as I have all the small parts..
stay away from any aluminum housing that is not a bolt through..as they will not keep the gears alive for as long..(hi hp apts).. strange sells one for about $300 to 350.. walk away from it...they even tell you things will not hold up..

in my top pics I show the red 5 bolt Daytona support.. sold by Currie Enterprise. it came installed in my 9" 25 years ago..with a ford cast iron housing...it did not fit the Yukon aluminum housing...me tryn to save a buck...lol who am I kidding...I had to buy a Yukon daytona support. as the housing was a tad under size..there part slid right in..(and I did not want to cut a down a known part that fits facty ford parts)
shop for the best deals on housings..i did not pay over $300 for mine..(ether one)but I shop and buy a lot of parts...
below is how they came out in the end..im doing a 3rd unit..as they are fun to shop for and run the deals..

doing a housing like this runs about $750 ball park(ya need to run deals) or buy one done for $1300.....lol

forged chromy yokes $75 nascar or new for the same price if you buy all the parts from one place..
bearings timkin $50
locker get a used unit (nascar) $200 like new 200miles on it maby 500 miles...
aluminum housing $250 one must shop...don't get hooked into a $400 housing...if your going to spend money..get a billet unit $1500
Daytona support $60
run deals when buyn the parts get the solid pinon spacer and shims for free or pay $13
get the pinon shims also for free or pay $15 for 2 sets(get 2 sets ya never know)
pinon O ring comes free with parts
arp ss pinon studs and nuts 2 set $80 ($39 a set)
arp pinon nut $15

note keep track of the parts you buy and install...I have a 3 ring binder with part numbers..so when I get hit buy a bus..who ever gets the car they will know what to shop for....
expl: pinon seal..going to parts store.. I ask for a pinon seal for a 1970 boss 429 mustang without AC...

That's a lot of good information. Thanks for sharing. Who makes the billet center you refer to?

the one marketed by speedmaster.. better oiling (2 feeds)not just 1.
and a better price....it's also anodized..(black or red) and takes 1 size of pinon bolts..along.. there are others with 2 feeds..but you pay for every small part..

the speedmaster units come with (my first one to pick out of the bunch) there casting finish is better now..not just a N.(now there logo)
pinon studs (10)
pinon O ring
pinon Nut
if you get the housing and the support ya get a few more goodys with it.
this saves you about $300 in just small parts. and over charges...
below is a expl add on ebay.. but shop to get all the small goodys they add up..(note the 3 small holes in support..retaining screws for pinon seal.) another goody..they don't tell about in the adds..
http://www.ebay.com/itm/142323903185...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
if you want the Yukon you can get about the same small parts ..but you will pay about $125 more...im not into the retaining caps cut like in pics I posted..but stuck with the Yukon as I wanted to get it put together..after it did not fit my 5 bolt support..the 3rd one will be from speedmaster...

Great information and the links are very helpful. That Speed Master stuff looks very interesting.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/9-Ford-Stran...3D142323903185

the above place will give a better deal when you call them...as they dont have to pay ebay the 10% it cost..fantastic to deal with.and they know there stuff...

note this aluminum housing in the above add (small weak) is not good for long life..even the maker strange says so...deflection kills the ring and pinon over time...with this unit....
