The longest Dyno Don header install ever!

First off the title is a bit misleading (think social media "news" articles lol). Anyway, I ordered directly from Dyno Don back in 2012 or 13 when I was deployed. Don, per his already great reputation, was great to do business with and covered the shipping as I was deployed (thank you for your support Don). Needless to say, when I got back the Army kept me busy and I did not get my car out of storage until 2015! Quick car background: 88 formula 350, SLP cold air, old edelbrock aftercat, under drives (march i think) and thats it. Best ever was a 14.36@93.

The installation is what everyone makes it out to be, patience is your best tool. I didn't lift the engine any, I removed all the stock stuff and installed the headers from the top side. The best tip I can give anyone is use 6 point sockets on the original manifold bolts, 12 points can round those old bolts in no time. Craftsman max access sockets are also a bonus. I used Dons recommended Earls gaskets and ARP bolts, no problems sealing but tightening all the bolts takes a few wrenches, sockets and maybe a universal. Cut my own plug wires from a universal Taylor set. Header fit is not an issue with these, they're the best.

The Y-pipe bolted up no problem, maybe an hour to get it in place and hooked to the cat and exhaust. I have a formula (i.e. no ground effects) so from the side the y-pipe looks super beefy under there.

I finished the install and left for a 900 mile round trip to Roadkill zip tie drags in Madison IL the next day. No exhaust leaks, no burned plug wires, additional V8 sound awesomeness the whole way. It was hot out and the car went 14.19@97.5. Took the win over a new edge Bullit mustang to boot.

So there we go, I wish I would have taken a lot of photos but I was on a time crunch trying to make it for the trip. By the far the most time consuming part is removing the original manifolds. The last thing to want to do is round or break on of those bolts.

Now to do a throttle body bypass, cool the intake manifold down and go into the 13's in this Ohio fall air. Dyno Don's for the win!!!!!

Pretty solid, shows how restrictive the factory manifolds are. Better torque converter and some gears, I bet that car would be deep in the low 13s.

Which car was yours? I cruised the pits b4 I left (I parked in the show area) looking for 3rdgens and I do have some pix of a few..
