Repairing curb rash
Well I did my search today to see if anyone knew how to fix curb rash. But I came up empty. Does anyone know how to fix curb rash? A couple of my rims are pretty bad looking and the scratched go in kinda deep. If anyone has an idea or knows, please post. Thanks.

You might be able to do some kind of polishing job. But pics would give us a better idea about how bad it might be.

By the looks for it how deep are the scratchs? You can only Grind they down so far.

I want to autocross my car on race rubber and was planning to use this wheel since I would be getting a deal on it? Could I just file down the outside lip so it doesn't tear into the side of a $200+ tire, or is it a lost cause?

Pics are hard to judge by, but that looks pretty deep.
Smaller scratches can be ground/polished out. Deeper ones may be a lost cause, or a professional shop can re-weld a bead to build it back up, then grind it down to where it should be.
But for strictly race wheels, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Mounting the tires won't damage them from that. Besides, score you some crosslace wheels, and shave even more pounds off the suspension.

I just want a smooth surface for the tire to mount to this way it wont hurt the tire if it would roll over the rim from the g's during autocrossing. Any idea how much it would cost at a shop? It's an aluminum wheel and I heard its a lot more expensive to work with aluminum, is this true?

There's a place down here in Tucson who will completely re-do a wheel. Curb rash, paint/coating, yada yada. Make them look brand new for $200 a wheel. Just getting the rash fixed would most likely be cheaper.

It doesnt look too bad from the pic, I'd just hit it with a file and forget about it if your just using them for autocrossing, obviously not the prettiest wheel but it should work just fine.

Thats exactly what I thought. Since I'm still in high school, money is extra tight so running it with a 'chance' of ruining the tire doesn't sit well with me. I was also wondering, would filing it down on the inside edge of the lip (where the tire contacts the wheel) make more of a gap and let air out because of the bad seal?
I can't use a cross lace wheel because it is not stock on the camaro's and I would be bumped out of stock class if I used them.

You can do a complete Z28/GTA chassis swap, to a RS or base Firebird. Chassis-wise, it's no different.
Between V6 & V8, there is a classification difference. Here's my wife's F Stock car, that ended up in SM, because of the hood & soft compound, "slicks". We were there to have fun, not purely to win and adhere to the rules. When our classification got bumped, we didn't care/

Yikes, that looks like crap! Did you let your girlfriend drive? Seriously, unless you can find a place that can build up the bead again and them machine it down(college/high school metalshop class or ?) it might be better to find another wheel...
