usbody hoods vs ascd hoods - ram air hoods

just wondering what is the difference if any and if one is better then the other? i see the ram airII hood is a little more rounded in the front but from the pics i see it doesnt fit very good. the one from usbody seems to fit better.. can both be made funtional? and if so how easy is it to do for a tpi car? and last why does the ascd hood cost so much more then the usbody hood? anybody that can help with this topic would be great. i plan on ordering this soon and what is the waiting period on getting one of these?

I think you are confused on a few things. Basically I think it is which company makes what hood. US-Body makes the Ram Air II hood, which in the pics does not fit very well due to the heat treating process the place that did the body work did on the hood. It caused the fiberglass to deform.
Second, I think the ASCD hood is about 100 less then the US Body hood. I think with some work they can be made functional on a Speed Density car, but a car with a MAF it is a PITA!
Tha major difference between the two is what year they are modeled after. ASCDs is modeled after the 97 with has no depression between the nostrils and is smaller in the rise. The US Body is modeled after 98+ with the depression between the nostrils and more of a rise.
I have a ASCD hood and it is great, but that is on my Camaro. I have not heard anything bad about ASCD, only good.
US-Body is rather new on thirdgen.org personally I haven't heard anything good or bad about them, most people have ASCD Ram Air hoods....
Hope this helps,
Douglas

My Usbody.com Ram Air II hood should be delivered here today or tomorrow. When I called about ordering it they said 4-5 week wait... I said, "WHAT!!" She said, "Uhhh, lemme check to see if we have any in stock... We do... It'll ship out tomorrow." Thanks God for that, I've got to get my damn car painted! Apparently they make them to order, so you may want to call in advance of when you'll actually need it. Way in advance. I'll post pix when I get it.

They have funtional ram air hoods, but I don't know if they will work with MAF.

If you thought ASCDs and US-Bodys are expensive.... Suncoasts sell for like 700+ bucks.
BTW, I looked at the prices and US Body hood for the same style (not liightweight) are 66 or about that much more then ASCDs. US-Body has one for 399, but that is a lightweight hood and needs hood pins and will NOT hook up to factory stuff...
I am glad I only paid 450 for my ASCD Ram Air hood after looking at the current prices!

I have the us body src's RA II hood.. It rocks. Just make sure you save up and get hte bolt on. pin on hoods suck nuts. Mine is a pain in the *** ... but, it only weighs 14 lbs.. so I guess it makes up for it
I'll have pics soon. but not until my car gets out of the paint shop

No, you don't have to get it baked. Most places actually don't bake it. Baking like hardens the clear coat so you can be a little more rough with the paint (like washing it and waxing it) sooner. I didn't have my hood baked....

I just bought a hood from ascd. I actually ordered it from Year One (NextGen) and I am pretty happy with it. Through ASCD the hood was like over 500 bones! Year One sells it for $399.00!! I guess people have been waiting up to 10weeks to get their hoods. They told me it would be about 4-6 weeks because they were back-ordered. I got it in 2 1/2 weeks!! Looks excellent.

The fitment is pretty good although mine has about a half an inch higher in the front (where the hood meets the front bumper between the headlights) DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS? Let me know PLEASE!!
