Post your Projects/ideas that you couldn't get off the ground, maybe we can!

I am sure I am not the only one here with a project or idea that seemed like it would be pretty cool, or would look nice, or even add a uniqueness to your car.... that you just couldn't make happen. This is not to say that you wont make it happen, this is just to say that it has not happened yet.

Post your ideas and any pics of WIP's (works in progress) that you either hit a dead end on, or lost the creative juice to try and finish. Perhaps one of us on the board

- has a better means of going about your idea
- has an idea that you would like to try
- can complete your idea
- has tried your idea with failure/success and has tips
- can be motivated to try something new, and inadvertantly start a new thirdgen trend.

Gotta remember, many people had to attempt before the 4th gen interior mods were stable. Perhaps your idea can bear as much fruit.

I was thinking about the carbon fiber hood that VFN Fiberglass sells. No louvers/blisters on it, its the flat RS style. Paint it in flat/matte black, put hood pins on it. Maybe someone has a flat black hood with pins on an otherwise very nice car, and would share some pictures? I'm wondering how it'd look.

Nice thought but, all your points involve $$... which, the majority of 3rdgen owners have limited amounts of or, the less skiller aren't willing to seperate with the $$ to have another do the work.

Big dreams usually equate to costly mods witch limited have the skill to do themselves to keep them affordableand even less have the funds to do.

If you wonder where I get my 'limited funds' figure from... look at any potential group purchace and the reality of the, 'I'd buy that if if were made' people, after the purchase/price become real.

Just an opinion from one of manys different veiwpoint....

I've always wanted to form some sort of chin spoiler for the 91-92 birds that sits parrallel with the ground and mounts to the bolts for the lower valance/bottom of TA/Aero bumper cover area. I just don't know how to go about it. That coupled with the earlier style sideskirts/rear bumper would look real smooth I think.

I've got so many skethes for this it's not even funny. Just no idea how to do it.

Saw a guy at STARS last year who had done it! Not sure if it was exactly what you had in mine. Sadly I was a knuckhead and never developed the pics...(predigital) Now I'm not sure in the 20 rolls I ahve to develop which it is! So sadly its getting put off! But basically he got a sheet metal or aluminum flat panel and then had metal threaded rods that hocked it to the bottom of the GFX... I believe 2 to each side in the front and one in the center. He could adjust the angle this way! Its alot like the import syltes you see floating about! Figure that is not what you mean, but I figured I post it anyway!

I had done a chin spoiler on my car...2 stock spoilers cut and coupled together to form the same angle as the nose. The sides i never got the angle I wanted though. The idea was sound, just never got all the kinks ironed out. Though the look generated amny hates on the boards here! Eventually a roll of carpet in the road totalled the front spoiler and I have yet to do anything with the carcase. Not sure if I want to bother with it or get a whole new nose piece... if you want the link to mine is here

I have been looking to create a lighting solution under my hood bright enough to illuminate the entire engine bay. (led preferrably) I was going to do it with little boxes with ultra high powered LED's ..... this is one that did not get off the ground well.

Have you checking into any of the LED Neons...maybe they are making them in the slim line small tubes? You could then tuck them up under the fender lip more to get them out of sight! I just went with the old retractable 90s truck under hood light. Have to turn on a switch...line is long enough to reach teh truck! THe back is magnetic...though that does nothing w/ a fiberglass hood!

Seems like a good place to add this...

Clear rear side markers... thoughts?

Oh wait...I just did it!

Tonight, I just pulled off this one mod I have been dying to do since the side markers were released by procar parts!

check out the basic step by step...temp site!

Eventually I plan to cut up a set of Kacked front fenders and rob the side marker area... then weld it to the pre pressed area in the rear...I think it would look alot cleaner then that blasted body color trim ring in the rear! Though that is down the road...not planing on repainting the rear again...I could kick myself for not thinking of it sooner!

If I had any other color than red I'd consider something like that but I like how the red lights don't break up the color flow of the rear quarters.

And if you ever find those pictures, send 'em my way. I always like seeing new ideas.

That seems like a decent idea if you're real good at body work or it's real cheap.

I've been thinking about that also... ever since I saw a C5 with it's hood up at night. I think it even had an on/off switch I think lol.

Well since the car was red I had put it off for the longest...It just bugged me with the clears up frt and the unmatched rear...

Hopefully I will be able to whitle myself thru some of those rolls soon...I will send them to you when I do!

Well We did the shaving ourselves...and Kacked fenders are dirt cheap at Pull-A-Part, esp if you take a Saw Zaw to them...prob charge me a buck or 2...or free if I buy a bunch of other stuff! They know they can't sell the beat up stuff! It sould be pretty easy since the quarted already have the indented lip. Cut the fener piece to the right size and weld it up! Both areas are on flat sheet metal, so there are no cuves or contours to deal with. Should not be to bad...easier then shaving!

Custom rear lights of any sort that look good. It can be done and I think pretty cheap too as long as you dong get too complicated. I have the older style lights, the two row and I was thinking of painting them all black and installing circle lense in each of the little sectors. Rather than or I was going to take all the black paint off and leave it clear. I would also like to see someone install a sunroof on their Camaro. I would also like to see a switchblade style Camaro key possibly with the buttons for door poppers, locks, etc. I would also like to see a Camaro hood that works kinda like the hatch glass. I would also like to see some custom vents for the interior.

Well...I've had this idea for a long time to use some sort of foreign car dash instead of the 4th gen dash. Something with smooth flat lines, not the bulgy blobby look I see with the 4th gen dashes. Don't get me wrong I love the interior of a 98 Ta...it just belongs there. Was thinking something from the Toyota family - as they've had many sporty cars with cool interiors that may fit with the thirdgen lines.

Are there any good dashes that are close dimensionally? 240sx dashes are shaped similarly; same with 300zx's

Haven't found any dashes that completely fit what I want yet. 300zx center section is ideal, as is the mid 90s celica center section (though less polished).

How about a hood that hinges from the front? Not that I'd do it, but I think it would look pretty good, and have it so it can lock open with a locking armature, so a gust of wind can't come along and slam it shut on your back as you fiddle with the distributor or something. Getting to the back of the engine with the hood up now is sort of a pain. Oh, and underhood lights would be nifty, the ones that come on when you pop the hood back a certain distance.

Since I've deleted the popups I'd also like to "shave" the headlight doors (mold them into the hood) and do that reverse open hood idea.

That was something I have been pondering as well!

EDIT: A boring blab about what I've been up to with the tpiroc and mentioned I hadn't posted in a long while. blah...

The dirt; I've been bummed with the car since it threw a rod over a year ago, I finished my 4th gen dash only to tear it out and strip the interior to paint the floor, and clean/replace everyting interior-wise. I stripped the engine bay and am waiting to finish smoothing the firewall. I have a 383 sitting on an engine stand waiting for it. The last thing I did was tinker with the tilt hood mechanism with is currently on the car.

HAVING TOO MANY PROJECTS IS FUN; but the more you have the less you get done on all of them.

I say this yet I just acquired project number 8... (85 IROC, 82 Cadillac, 81 Cadillac, 72 240Z, 69 Cadillac, 69 Nova, 69 Nova, 50 Chevy)

EDIT: AND GET DRUNK, it's fun (especially when posting on TGO)

ANOTHER EDIT: last pics of the stripped roc

Wee, I'm done.

I have more failed ideas than everyone on this board combined, would take days, let alone weeks to post them all.

Although one mod I keep having in my mind that Id like to see done on my car; a replica of the grace co hood for firebirds. I like the flat style hood and don't want a huge cowl, but want to let some air out instead of in.

Also, some early C4 fender vents would be nice too, haven't figured out a feasible way to go about doing that.

When I replace the front bumper, I plan to also replace the rear bumper...not really liking the inserts if they no longer match the front. I'm planning on making a notched place in my bumper for the exhaust. Yes it will still be centered. I'm planning to get a fiberglass bumper if i can get one that is decently made! If I go with the Showcar parts rear bumper, I ahve already been told I should only give them the $ when I go to pick up the piece. Thay held on to a friends cash for the whole GFX kit and never sent the kit. About a year it went on till lawyers were involved, then suddenly the parts arrived!
