These are on the new summit catalog. Cragar steelies series 397 for only $59.95 each. That is really cheap, and I assume that these wheels would be lighter than most other 17's. I am just wondering if they would look like crap?
Brand: Cragar
Product Line: Cragar Black Soft 8 Wheels
Rim Diameter (in): 17
Rim Width (in): 9.00

They make them in 5x4.75, so the bolt pattern is right. What do you guys think about them. I don't want bling, and I like the understated look. Plus they are 9 inches wide.
they also have the silver finish series 398 for $91.95 each
same measurements, just silver finish.

does anyone here have this set on their car? I am really thinking that is is a cost effective method of getting some 17's, without having to sacrifice style.
I think I like the chrome better, but I want some opinions.
thanks

I think they're ugly as heck, but that's a nice price for someone who wants to put some meaty 275/40-17s on their car without spending a lot

If you click, "click here for details" and scroll down to the 17x9 for the Black soft 8 wheels you see they weight 40 lbs, and chrome will be even heavier. So they are not light, good deal on price but these are best for trucks and trailers.

Those wouldn't even look good on a truck. The center of those wheels are *** alful and look heavy duty if you get what im sayin(trucky)
If you want cheap 17" wheels for cheap then go ahead but I would def think twice............maybe think more then twice.

About the only car I would run those on would be a NASCAR-touring car like an 80's Monty/Cutlass/Grand Prix, or perhaps an old sport back Torino/GT500. It's a cheap way to get into some 17's, but they look just as cheap on the wrong car.

I wasn't just trying to cheap out on wheels, but I have always liked the look of steelies. Kinda like the 16's on cop cars.
The chrome center cap is additional. I like the look, though. I didn't see that they were that heavy. I would be sold on the zr1's if they were wider than 8 inches.
I just talked to summit, they said the shipping weight is 40, the wheel weighs 25+/-
I will have to think about it some more, but I still want some opinions.
Thanks

The tires have way too much sidewall though.
I am slightly discouraged. I have been searching for other vehicles with these wheels mounted on them, and it seems to be very popular among jeeps.
I still really like the style, but I think that I am not using this wheel to its intended use.
I should just put that "import look" and have steelies up front and a nice wheels 'round back. J/K

They are a great if you road racing. I wouldn’t take ZR-1's and thrash them on a track especially with a 2” spacer. I would hate to spend money on a wheel and see it scratched and dented so these would be great alternative to those who feel the same way.

For me, I like the looks. Right now, I am more concerned about the weight. They seem too heavy. I just tried to email Cragar, to see what the wheel weighs.
If it is anything over 25 lbs I should skip it, right?
What is a good weight for me to go with?

I like the style to, but i don't want anything that heavy.
I found a place somewhere a while back that made rims like on that white IROC and weighted i think around 20 lbs not sure of the size. About the same pirce.
I see if i can find the website again.

For a 11" on the back, you are going to hafta have a 4th gen rear end or do some sheetmetal cutting to tuck them in under the fenders. Otherwise they will stick out pretty bad. So much that you could stand on top of them.

Those wheels look better than many I have seen on here. Some of which cost some real money. I would not like the weight though.

I was looking at these wheels a couple weeks ago on summitracing.com, and I thought they'd look great. Personally I'd stick with the 15in wheel and get some white letter tires, as I don't know how nice the 17in would look. The only downside I see with them is that they are steel and pretty heavy. Plus it seems a lot of people on this site don't like the whole black wheel look, I guess we just have a weird taste.

I second that!

Re: 17x9 cragar's only $59.95 ea.
I dont like them either but I think they look really nice on this car, and this seems to be about the same idea you guys had earlier:
How much do a set of 17x9 Chrome IROCs weigh? Or 17x9 ZR1s?
I know the C5 Z06 wheels are pretty light... around 20lbs a wheel. But I know those are pretty light in the big scheme of things. Plus the fact that we have to use spacers on each wheel for those. Not sure how much of a weight penalty 40 lbs a wheel really is compared to other 17 inch wheels that aren't completely drag oriented. They're sounding like they might be okay AutoX wheels...
They are definitely ugly... but the right car with the right stance could definitely pull those off in a utilitarian kind of way.
Either way, they're $97 each on Summit:

Is it one of those catalog specials? You mind sharing your catalog number and so forth? Im mulling these over...

I actually bought some of the chrome ones years ago when they first came out. I had some take-off tires from a 4th gen in the garage and just needed some new rollers for while I was working on the car(came with completely mismatched wheels). They don't look all that bad and served their purpose quite well for me (rollers while working on the body, now used during winter storage so I don't have to worry about flatspots on my nice wheels). Some ancient pictures for what its worth.

That.... actually looks pretty good.
While the black ones look tough, they have the same problem as every other black wheel: you can't tell where the wheel ends and the tire starts. With the chrome ones, you can clearly see the larger-than-stock size, and all the detail work. Not bad at all if you just want cheapo 17s and don't care about weight.
