Now that looks good! I'd love to tint my taillights, but I want them shiny too. Maybe I can get that done when I get my bumper fixed.

I just did all the lights on my 99 jeep cherokee yesterday. I only took pics of the tails, maybe today ill get some of the truck with the lights on. After seeing how well it turned out on my truck ive decided i will definatly be doing the tails on my camaro. Heres a pic of the tails from my truck.

Those look good. I've seen them completely blacked out and it looks good on some 3rd gens but not black ones IMO. But I think those would look awesome on my car. I might have to try that. Good find.

transparent black is just like nightshade. the trick with this one is that is has the glossy characteristics of clear coat and black. which makes it a transparent black, thats also glossy.

Wonder if it's shiny. That's my problem with the niteshades, it's very flat and look like crap. The Testors stuff is cheap enough so I'll see if I can find some locally.

I don't know exactly where I saw the pic. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Mr. IROC-Z's car. Here is the cardomain.

If I find the darker one I'll post it up.

I just ordered the candle apple transparent for the amber taillight section. I want to do that then do the clear coat+black. I think that would look pretty sweet.

I just bought some of the Testors stuff, so we'll see how it goes. I'm also going to get some Duplicolor clear coat from Autozone so it'll be more durable.

Ya but not all of us have access to air compressors and paint guns, if i did thats how my tail lights would look. cept the red tail light mod would be done on the inner part of the amber turn signals.

Im all for tinting tail lights i just hate amber. I also hate the black covers as those just look cheap...

If you know what your doing with nightshades you can get a good shine out of it, if you learn how to wetsand and buff.

I bought 2 cans from Hobby Town USA. According to what they told me, one can (3oz.) is enough to make 3-4 coats on a R/C car body which looked to be a bit smaller than the taillights. The problem is, I don't know how dark one coat gets the light, he said the stuff is very thin though (also meaning it'll run easily).

I am in the process of smoking my taillights, and I am using the Testors product. I have used VERY light coats to try and keep it very smooth and with 5 coats I still have half a can 3oz. Five very light coats and it looks very similar to the top picture, and I still need to polish!

Thats one can with plenty left over after about a year of weathering

When you spray them, do it slightly darker than you actually want.

Your first wax (yes you need to wax your tailights now) will lighten them up

The nice sheen like the top most pic lasts about a month and you get a slight dullness thenafter. Enuff to match my center panel.

Ive never had any problems about my tailights from the police. Just my right foot

with the can i made like 3-4 coats and i just sprayed it on without wet sanding or prep cause i just wanted to see wut it looked like for craps and giggles so it turned out pretty good but then again i sprayed them in the middle of winter and in a dusty garage with out prepping them and i had tiny bubbles but i didn't bother to wet sand em and buff em and the tail lights were broken.
And i still had plenty left over to do the other tail light and there was still sum in the can but not a lot

i jsut did the "red taillight mod" this weekend, turned out pretty good (where u take the lenses apart, and paint the orange lenses with transparent red) i jsut gotta buff them

as for the tinted lights, i've read that website a year or so ago,and know someone who tried it; tehy said that the clearcoat started cracking,a nd now the lights look bad.. so im not sure about doing that

You know, I don't recall the exact amount of material that was used to spray the lights. It was more of a 'try and see" approach. I tested the spray on some clear plastic tubing I had, and I just added more black to the clear until I got the desired effect.
I will most likely re-do the lights because I think they are too dark. The ones that are listed in the magaizine look perfect..and want to match that.

that does look pretty sick, but I think they would look even nicer, wiht if you first spray the turn signals red, then go the black over the whole thing. Thats my opinion though.
