91 Teal Camaro RS, too plain

I just picked up another 91 Camaro, its an RS with a 305, and it has good paint, but it just really is too plain. My previous teal 91 had a black hood, which added a lot more aggressive look, but it also made it look like a kids car.

Im considering some black racing stripes, but I was hoping you all could give me some pictures.

This car wont be getting much for go-fast mods. Just to make it prettier and more fuel efficient. Im delivering pizzas with it, so I just want to do some simple stuff. Any suggestions you have I would love.

I want to get some HID fog lights for it, where can I pick them up and how much do they cost?

Re: 91 Teal Camaro RS, too plain

damn delivering pizzas in a third gen is like my worst nighmare. being 6'2" sucks sometimes. i would put some blackedout tail light covers on, get rid of the crappy rs hood and maybe put an iroc hood on. leave the louvers on the rear hatch though, that makes it standout. im not to big of a fan of teal camaros, maybe just get a black maaco paintjob for like 500, the skys the limit!

oh yea get rid of those tacky rims for sure. maybe something like this

Im also 6'2, so I feel your pain. I used to deliver with my camaro equipped with a 383 and straight pipes. That didnt work out well. =/

Black tail lights, great idea!

I have another early Z28 hood, what I am worried about is that Im not sure it could be painted to match well. How much would that cost ya think?

ZR1 17 inch rims are in the future for sure

Don't blame your height...I'm 6' 5" & my GTA is my 6th 3rd gen and I've never complained. Put in 4th gen seats though & you'll be a lo more comfortable.

As for the Teal RS....

Swap the wheels. At least for some stock 16" ones. Be it IROCs or 91/92s or Pontiac crosslace (those would be my favorites & they are the lightest OEM 16" wheel, so they would be good for weight savings too)

Ditch the rear louvers. If no other reason, they add weight. Losing them would reduce the weight.

For the front bumper support, find a 82-84 one.....They are aluminum. All the others are steel.

Do you use or need the back seat? Ditch it if not. Not worth much, but shave a few pounds.

Fiberglass hood...You get style & less weight in one shot. Camaros have lots of choices.

Then there are things like a good tune up, even if that is just checking the plugs & plug wires...Air cleaner...Might as well get a K&N for that .001hp/efficiency increase.

Headers, a new hi-flow cat & a catback....Not for power but for better breathing of the engine, thereby improving efficiency.

After you've done enough....A new PROM. Again, not for hp increase but tuned for engine efficiency.

Planning on some ZR1s down the road, but i'll be keeping my eyes out for some 16s. Good suggestion!

I plan on keeping them for now, I like that it is different

Im not able to picture the part your talking about, maybe you can give me a picture?

Do you use or need the back seat? Ditch it if not. Not worth much, but shave a few pounds.

cant loose the rear seat

Fiberglass hood...You get style & less weight in one shot. Camaros have lots of choices.

The only fiberglass hood I have had dealings with gave me a lot of trouble with separation. Are they all like that, or was I just un-lucky?

Then there are things like a good tune up, even if that is just checking the plugs & plug wires...Air cleaner...Might as well get a K&N for that .001hp/efficiency increase.

The plugs and wires, any suggestions? I dont want to spend more than I need to, but quallity is important

Headers, a new hi-flow cat & a catback....Not for power but for better breathing of the engine, thereby improving efficiency.

How can I recognize a high flow cat? I believe it might have one

After you've done enough....A new PROM. Again, not for hp increase but tuned for engine efficiency.

I am so new with TBI, I ripped it out of my old car. I would love it if you could tell me more about custom tunes or other ways to tweak the computer to make it more efficent. I mean, would a power commander help me out?
Wieght reduction isnt a huge concern. I have had my race car, and if I was going to build another hot rod, it would be a second gen firebird. This is for daily driving, delivering pizza, and dates. Curb apeal is important.

Also, because I am taking an auto upholstry class, I am planning on swapping to fourth gen seats, then re-upholstering them in black leather.

Re: 91 Teal Camaro RS, too plain

If you pull the urethane nose off, you'll see this....

on a metal support like this....

To run ZR1s, you'll need Skulte adapter spacers...Or them up front & a 4th gen rear

On fiberglass hoods, I hear a LOT more success stories on good ones than bad ones.

A fourth gen rear is already in the plans, and I know I would need spacers up front.

So how hard is it to color match a new hood to the existing teal? I wonder if a 2 inch fiberglass cowl hood would add a lot to the look. I just would be concerned that a cowl hood would look "Poser-ish" on a stock 305

Re: 91 Teal Camaro RS, too plain

I'm not liking the cowl hoods anymore. They are everywhere. I do like the 4th gen SS style on 3rd gens though, or the Jongbloed hood, although there is only 1 place to buy it new & I'd steer clear of them. What I REALLY don't like is Camaros with 4th gen Pontiac hoods, of Pontiacs with 4th gen Camaro hoods. Camaros belong on Camaros & Pontiacs belong on Pontiacs.

Paint matching depends on the condition of the current paint & the skill of your painter.

Well, the front end of the car had to painted some what recently because of some bumper damage, and since I am in tech school for automotive interior, I would go next door to have them paint it as best they could. Any guess on how hard that would be?

An ss style hood... That would be sweet

Re: 91 Teal Camaro RS, too plain

How did I forget the spoiler?! Lol, that will help

Im out of graham washinton.

So, SS hood, then the racing stripes on either side of it? How would you choose do them? With an iroc hood I would just run them over the louvers...

Re: 91 Teal Camaro RS, too plain

How about the wrap around like the GTA wings? Or the 4th gen Pontiac wing? The stock 4th gen ones are pretty easily to line up to mount & are really light & look good, even on a Camaro. And CHEAP! If you paid over $100, you paid too much.

Re: 91 Teal Camaro RS, too plain

well, what I am concerned about is the left behind holes from the old one, so anything that will either go into the same holes or cover the old ones would work great

Which spoilers fall into that category?

That rules out the OEM 4th gen wings I suggested...We had to weld the old holes shut & drill new ones. For 4 times the price, we could have bought one that dropped into the original holes.

And as far as Camaro vs Pontiac holes & what fits....I have no idea how they match up. I like the Hawk's 5" RS style one though.

You can paint those pieces before you install them.

If you sell your louvers let me know

Thanks,

Ok, I came to a decision.

Fog Lights, wheels, spoiler, paint the louvers teal, and get an SS hood.

Then we will be the ultimate sexy

OP, that brings back a memory or two seeing a car almost identical to mine when I bought it. Definitely not my favourite car in factory form.
