Fresh Arctic White paint on my 87z28

Well finally got the car back together. I had a mishap at work we're somebody hit my Fender. No way I was going to match the 30 year old thing so I decided to get a full respray in Arctic White. I thought I was going to miss the Z28 decals but I like how fresh it looks with just White.

The car cleaned up well for being thirty years but it had its minor defects here and there

I'm hoping to button up the rest of it this week and get it out for a photoshoot

Here is some before and after.

Arctic white with the natural black accents on these cars really is the best! No decals is my opinion. All other whites look dirty or dingy next to it. On a sunny day the Arctic white is so bright it's almost blinding too. haha.

The decals and argent ground effects are what made that generation of Z28 different from an Iroc or RS... The before photo is more striking, while the after looks like a typical repaint where all the decals and door moldings have been ejected. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice car, I just think it looks better and more unique with the decals and moldings intact.

remember not all Z28s had that clutter (decal) and they do look better without all the clutter..and I cant think of a better stock GM color.

You like these cars better when they scream "1980's!"

From 85-87 they did, unless they were optioned as Irocs. The stripes and accented ground effects, are what set a 85-87 Z28 apart from the monotone cars. The "not all" is exactly what makes the stripes different and unique. It's part of the car's identity.

A little. It fits because they're iconic 80's cars.

Personally, I just associate any thirdgen from that era without the stock decals with the Maaco repaints, where they didn't bother to tape off the door handles or replace any of the black outs or decals. That's not an attack on this car, it's just the jump my mind makes when I'm looking at a thirdgen. Like a red flag that stands out and grabs your attention.

Just sharing an unpopular opinion...

I like the moldings on the sides. It breaks the car up with a harder line and also helps keep that paint fresh from door dings...

Believe me I had a hard time parting with the stripes that originally I hated. I was still debating adding them but I like it as is.

The car looks great but I would agree here with Drew 100%.

Very nice repaint! While I don't mind the stripes that much, I do prefer the look without them. I would have gone 1 step further and shaved the Z28 emblems off the skirts and the antenna.

Looking forward to seeing finished pics plus a nice photoshoot.

Re: Fresh Arctic White paint on my 87z28

Looks killer!!! Im not a fan of the two tone look. Also, don't mind not having decals/stripes. However, if I was wanting to buy an Iroc, I would want all that stuff, weird I guess. There's a white hardtop Iroc with only 8k miles or so that keeps popping up on Ebay. Would absolutely love to have that car, and it's all original. However, yours does look a lot meaner now!!!

Re: Fresh Arctic White paint on my 87z28

It's win-win. I'd say the all white look suits the modern wheels and stance a bit more. If you had stock or a more period correct wheel, I'd go with the decals. Great looking car!

I like it with the original decals and painted ground effects, but it looks good both ways.
