Thanks! It was a fun car and kind of miss it. The car was very easy to sell and sold fast. That one and the '83 were sold to get the 5 speed, 7K mile '89 convertible.

It did. I was getting messages for weeks after it sold inquiring about it. It needed some cosmetic TLC when I got it, but it was ABSOLUTELY rust free, being a California desert car and was mechanically sound. The bottom looked liked it had just rolled off the truck! If I had the space, I would have kept that one. My wife, daughter and even mom, loved the color. The '83 however, I was simply done with and would have sold it regardless.

As the new owner of the '92 was pulling out of my driveway, I told him how I had only used original AC Delco replacement parts on it and the lengths I had gone through to preserve it's originality.

He said, "Yeah, I don't care. I'm gonna LS swap it".

Wonder how that car is doing? Probably sitting disassembled in someone's garage.

Re: Post your High Mile thirdgens!

My '91 RS V6 with about 206k miles back in '05. Most of the sheet metal was replaced but still had the original interior and drivetrain, only thing that was replaced was the rearend.

white gauge overlay

original flame red interior

The odometer stopped working at around 250k miles and the engine finally gave out around 275k back in '09. Sat in my driveway since then. Wish I had better pictures of the interior, it's in shockingly good shape. Here's what she looked like a few months ago before I finally sent her off to get a LS1/4L60E...

LS swap isn’t the worst thing I guess with a high mileage car.. would have been nice to find someone who loved the car and wanted to restore it to original, but can’t always pick the buyer..

I’d hope he keeps the exterior original.. such a nice looking car..

Thanks. The other two birds were slower, but who knows why. Just the case...

Here's another pic. Circa 1995 or 96

I appreciate it! I have a little work to do to restore it to it's former glory.

I agree with you on the yellow font. To hide it, I ended up replacing all the console lighting with red bulbs.

I have a 1990 Rs with a 305. It has 340,000 km on it and is still in really good condition. No rust. Tranny and rear end have been rebuilt and lots of other newer parts. I love it and drive it all summer long.

Re: Post your High Mile thirdgens!

Hi all! Long time lurker, first post here.

254,000 miles on our 1986 Trans Am, and it hasn't been licensed since 2006. We are the original owners. My wife (girlfriend at the time) bought it new in 1986. For a while it was my daily driver and I had a 90 mile round trip to work. At 180,000 I pulled the LG4 and dropped in a ZZ4-350. It still has the original 5 speed manual transmission and 9 bolt rear end. I added SLP headers and weld in sub-frame connectors when I did the engine swap.

The Trans Am has been sitting for over 10 years with the occasional drive every few months to keep things lubricated and fresh gas in her. I am finally getting my shop finished and will be starting a full restoration next year. Of course I will be spending a lot of time on thirdgen.org!

BTW, my latest toy is put to bed for the winter. It is a 2018 Camaro SS with the 1LE track package and an amazing piece of machinery! But I still have a soft spot for our Trans Am.

Here's another pic from around 1993 or 1994. My car is the one on the left. My best friend's twin car is on the right. Both are 1989 GTA 5.7L T-Top cars w/ gray leather. His had plastic t-tops, mine were glass. His had twin cats, mine had single.

My nose emblem was replaced (long story), but you can see the GM replacement was lighter than original. They (dealer) didn't believe or care, even though it was their issue why it was replaced...

Yeah, I figured I'd see the purple car around by now, since the new owner was only about 30 minutes from me. Never have, though.

Post your High Mile thirdgens!-5fjwdsz.jpg
has 175,000 original miles on it.170,00 from the original owner, the body is rough and im starting to find rot in a-pillar and wheel wells, also the battery blew up at one point so the tray is trashed.and the interior needs some love.

i bought it in 2010 from the original owner,a nice lady who bought it new in 1985 and stayed local as her daily driver for 25 years when she retired.a water pump was all it needed and i got it for $1000.in 2014 the alternator died at my dads house right as i was changing careers so it stayed parked there until early 2017.i changed the alternator and charged the battery and it fired right up.engine and trans run great,i try to drive it a few days a week.

Amlv20 that car looks good from the pic.. hopefully it will get some more TLC and keep going strong.. they are surprisingly reliable and easy to work on at least..

Really nice looking mantaguy.. would like to see more as well.. seems like you’re on top of your ride staying tip top!

Love the old pics Big&BadGTA! Just has a different feel than iPhone pics.. I did a huge photo shoot with my buddy in 1994 with our flame red IROCs doing burnouts and stuff.. I wonder if he still has his 87 5.7..

Re: Post your High Mile thirdgens!

my 91 firebird currently has 149,000 and is my daily driver. its rough. I'm the third owner and clearly the first that gave a crap about the car. ive rebuilt the transmission, replaced the heater core, fixed the high speed on the heat/ac fan, lubricated the headlights and got them working well, attempted to but didn't get the a/c hissing completely fixed, and have been driving the crap out of it. there are a few more minor common mechanical issues that are on my list. this is the glamour shot. its only presentable in wet overcast weather.

Thanks! Looking forward to start working on the TA this spring.

The 6th gen Camaro is really something, especially with the magnetic ride 1LE suspension and tires. The alpha chassis (from 2016 on) from the Cadillac CTS platform has taken the Camaro to another level in terms of handling. Search 1LE PDR (Performance Data Recorder) on YouTube and you will find a lot of on-board track vids showing the Camaro keeping up and passing cars costing 2-3X as much!

that's why children do not drive my cars, they can get themselves a nice job and buy it themselves.
this way they understand the value of a dollar because they earn it instead of taking things like your
beautiful car for granted.

Thanks, I really love both, but the '86 will always be extra special to me :-) You've got a great looking car too!

i picked this car up last year and im the 7th or 8th owner,im amazed how clean and rust free this car is being from Ontario, salted road capital of Canada.according to what i was told by the last owner its never been winter

I saw a 160k car that was in great shape.. I could have been fooled it was a 60k car.. a garage storage in the winter makes a huge difference..

Re: Post your High Mile thirdgens!

My 86 Iroc, my baby. Bought her brand new when I was stationed at McGuire AFB in New Jersey back in 86. Traded my white Z28 in for her. Body as 186,000 on it. Put a 350 in her 2 months ago and now i'm restoring her little by little.

B4 doing any compounding.

After a 1st go thru with the buffer and Meguiars Ultimate Compound, which is awesome stuff. Never used a buffer b4 lol.

Re: Post your High Mile thirdgens!

I put 167K on my first 1990 Formula. I bought it new and logged over 100,000 miles in just over three years. I sold it after 8 years with 167K. It was always garaged and looked great inside and out. I sold it to a guy who was impressed with the body and frame and was going to use it to build a drag racer; the car ran great but he wasn't interested in the mechanicals. I felt kind of bad that he was going to gut it.

My next 1990 Formula was bought in 2003 with 57,000 miles on it. I got laughed at for even considering a 13-year old Pontiac. That car never game me a lick of trouble. I told it in 2009, 20 years after if left the factory, with 125,000 on the odometer. It may have had a lot of cheap, hard plastic, but the interior looked great. The only issues were that the spoiler was just starting to show a few cracks, though nothing serious, and there was just a hint of surface rust at the top of both rear wheel wells. The car still ran like new.

kind of a bummer to get to 167k and keep the car mint only for someone to gut it..

hopefully the parts went to someone who appreciated and needed them..

184,000 miles. I’ve put 40,000 of that on it in the past 3 years I’ve owned it, with very few issues. Just got my T56 back from the shop being rebuilt, the previous owner swapped the automatic for a T5. I definitely bought it to drive, an do so nearly every day.

Odometer stopped some time in the late 200's at 330,000km, must be at least 400,000 by now. You'd believe it by the condition of the original seats

Thank you! It's a 10 footer for sure. Maybe even 40. Someone backed a truck in to my passenger fender and caved it in pretty good, hence the passenger side pic haha
