B&M Mega shifter
B&M Mega shifter
I bought a B&M Mega Shifter for my 87 TransAm. In the instuction booklet it states that the shifter will not fit the Formula Console. What I need to know is what does the Formula console look like? What year did Pontiac start using it? And why won't the Mega Shifter fit it? Are there any modifications that can be made to make it work?
I haven't tried to put it in the car yet, any info would be helpful.

Maybe I'm missing something. You have a Trans Am. You don't have a Formula. Therefore you have a Trans Am console and not a Formula console. So where's the problem?
Console
The console in the Trans Am that I have is not the console that all other F-bodies got through the 80's. My car is a real T/A, but the console doesn't connect with the dash, the pod that houses the stereo is part of the dash and not the console. This has me wondering which console I have. Also, the arm rest that is on my console is streamlined and not the squared off one that is on other models. So I need to find out what a Formula console looks like.

Thanx for the pics. The console in your 85 is identical to the one that I have. If your console is original, then the shifter should fit because B&M doesn't state any conflicts with consoles untill the 87 or 88 model year. We'll see.

Looks like the one in my 1987 Trans-AM. I thought pretty much everything from 1985 to 1990 Was the same in the interior. Now I know they made some changes in 1991.

B&M is incorrect.
B&M made an error when they released that Megashifter.. I bought one for mine (I have a 1988 Base Firebird). The shifter will not be a direct replacement for any firebird or trans am past 1984. The 1982-1984 consoles are a direct fit...
You have to do cutting of the console for 1985-1992 firebirds/formulas/trans am's.... It's not too bad, and looks pretty good when you're done, but is more work than it should be (with what b&m says it fits)...

Just this part. As far as I know. The whole bezel for the switches got the grid pattern and it was rounded more.

That's not the center console, chief.
I'm referring to the center console, where the shifter and "glove compartment" is, not the dash or gauge bezel or dash pad or any of the other elements in the front of the car.
