1990 Firebird Hatchback issues

My hatchback decided it doesn't want to lock closed anymore. Any ideas??

Thanks!

I recently had an issue with my battary and had to replace my alternator too. Could these problems have blown the fuse or is it something else? I really don't have a clue about this stuff, so any info will be great.

This happened with my hatch too. Does your motor have the plastic mounts or the metal ones?

If it has the plastic mounts, if might just be that the locking mechanism is jammed closed, preventing the motor from closing it all the way. Just take a screwdriver and pry it open. If that isnt the problem, look at the motor and see which one of the switches( its really just a piece of metal that triggers the switch) and bent it to adjust the timing. Use something like a screwdriver for the claw of the motor to grab so you dont have to shut your hatch everytime. This worked for me, so hopefully if will for you too.

His being 1990 would have a metal frame. The plastic ones came mid 1991. If you're having trouble getting it to latch, then the pull-down motor may have motored down and is mid-cycle. The hatch pull-down motor powers down ONLY when the small black switch (called the striker-senting switch) located next to the latch is pressed. If you stop pressing the switch while the hatch pull-down is powering down it will stop. What you'll need to do it reach in with your finger or a screwdriver and press the switch and hold it down until the unit has completed it's down-cycle and you ehar a "CLICK". That click is the reversing switch being tripped. Now release the switch and the unit should power all the way up. You'll hear another "CLICK" at the completion of the up-cycle. If yours doesn't power down, then pull off the hatch surround trim panel and unplug the blue wire from the red with white-stripe wire. Check that you have +12v at the red with white stripe wire. If not, for Firebird check the in-line fuse adjacent to the fuse block. On Camaro check the #3 fuse, (third column, first row).

Thank you so much for the info, I really appreciate it. Btw, it's HERS, not HIS

I just wanted to let you know your suggestion was right on the money. I stuck my finger in the locking mechanism, and it did it's cycle thingy and raised back up to where it needed to be. My hatchback is now locked shut.

Thanks so much for your help. I hope I did not offend by being a smart *** about being a she and not a he .

No problem, my psycic powers must have been low that day for me to fail to notice. I'm sure I wouldn't have made the mistake if I'd met 'ya in person.

I'm glad you got it resolved. The bill is in the mail.
